JDM STI gauge cluster doesn't sweep!?!?
Coming back to the gauges, the Spec C does have this function. See here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MefNAX2gGyo

I have an MY01 STI JDM, Do your clocks light up green or Red? i know the later blob JDM's had the red ones thats did the sweep but was unsure on the early ones.

As a side note I was in a MY03 JDM STi on Sunday night and that had the sweep function, outside temp display and a few other things that my MY04 Spec C doesn't have.
I mean taking the weight saving down to the slight weight difference of a slightly heavier display, an extra bit of loom and a temp sensor does seem a little bit too much like OCD.

So far, on my count we have 9 Spec Cs (7 hawk 2 blob) including myself that do not have the sweep function. I think we can all come to the conclusion that the Spec Cs do not have the sweep function from the factory.
I noticed that the owner of the Spec C in the youtube link may have bought the car from Litchfield (his other post showing type20 upgrades). As to why his has the sweep, it is highly possible that Litchfield set it in as they are able to do this albeit at a cost as Gussy has said.
So, i must be dreaming that mine was once sweeping.....

I think his might have been "enabled" by Litchfield as i think that's a Litchfield supplied car as it has the type20 kit fitted. Of course i'm speculating.
^^ Why would Subaru turn it off on a Spec C when it is enabled on a JDM STi ... seems a tad silly to me!

PS
MY06 Spec C T20 owner here (not sure if same as the UTube poster although seems probable):

From what I gather a "standard" MY06 Spec C onwards, does NOT sweep from new.
I have spoken to Iain Litchfield about this in the past, as I thought it was a quick software hack in Ecutek etc to enable it, but that wasn't the case.
The clocks/dashboard part have to come out and I believe a part is added. On Iain's original T25 website, in the available extras there was a "Spec C Dashboard dials sweep" for about £90. Link here http://www.type-25.com/pdf/MY07_Type25_options.pdf
The youtube link belongs to CallumW and was for certain a Spec C, as I remember commenting on the sweep action when I saw him at Silverstone a while back.

I will say it one more time
.... the clocks can be re-programmed to sweep. You don't add any parts. Taking the clocks out and the equipment to re-programme them is what costs the cash... hence the cost associated to it.
Why it is was turned off for Spec C's god only knows.

As far as I am aware, all JDM cars from blobeye (03) onwards should have sweeping gauges, so I can't understand why the Spec C woudn'd have this, as they have the same stepper motor gauges.

Ok fellas, the verdict is out. Spec Cs do not come with the sweep function from the factory, only the JDM STIs do. I managed to get the information on the 'sequential startup function' from the JDM owners' manual translated.

Heres what it says:
Initializing the Indicating needle
For red luminescent and white luminescent, upon turning the engine switch to "On", all 4 meter indicating needles will indicate the maximum and then immediately return. (excluding STI spec C)
Setting Method
STI indicating needle can be set or deactivated using the method below.
1. When the engine switch is at "ON", and REV Indicator Setting **** is turned either to the right or left, setting or deactivating can be done by pushing the Trip Switch/Trip Meter Reset ****.
When this is done, the buzzer will sound and the external temperature display will change to the initial start-up display. The initial start-up mark and "ON", or "--" will be displayed.
Although the above information is taken from the owners' manual for the MY06-07 hawkeye JDM GDB STI. I believe the sweep function was not included in the earlier Spec Cs as well (MY03-05)
as confirmed by CannonFodder and TX.
So i guess the Spec Cs that have the sweep function were programmed in from new by the supplier (as confirmed possible by Robocop and Shaun) or was done by a previous owner.

If it can be programmed then is this possible by the likes of Bob Rawle, JGM etc as if not then it would probably mean a trip to your local dealer.
It is probably just a sofware patch that needs to be applied.

There was mention of the cluster having to be removed to program the cluster.
Not sure if this is correct as I have never seen an interface on the cluster.
It seems that Litchfield charge around the £90 to have it done, which is steep if the cluster does not have to come out! If it does then I would say thats a fair price.

I doubt they will have the ability to program these clocks.... you need a special bit of hardware that has nothing to do with ECU programming. The clocks need to be removed and the hardware plugged in to the back of the clocks iirc. Litchfield's should be able to sort it out for you.
