As someone has already said, the only time I do it is to ensure that car drivers know that you're there. You may all think that sounds daft, but unless you actually ride a motorbike, you may not understand.
The amount of car drivers who fail to see bike riders is staggering. People who drive a particular route often, do it sometimes on auto pilot and really don't see that we are there. A blip on the throttle is often the only way car drivers even acknowledge that you are there-too many times I have almost been hit by a car driver who has no idea I am alongside-when they are at the front of a set of traffic lights and think that they can quickly move over into the adjacent lane, almost wiping me out in the process!!

I have no symapthy for bikers, (pedal and road) cos 99 percent of them think they can ignore the rules of the road and ride like *****!

Funnily enough, one of the first things we're taught on CBT is that many drivers have this attitude, and that inconsiderate drivers are one of the greatest hazards any biker has to deal with.
You choose warmth, comfort and safety - bikers choose enjoyment, performance and not having to sit queueing in traffic. Different vehicles for different purposes, that's all!

Don't be a sour faced gimp sat in a metal box seething away that you can't avoid the queue.
Imagine every bike/scooter etc taking up a place in that line and making it 25% longer. That's got to be more annoying than thinking "perhaps i should give up my flaccid attempts at demonstrating my power by sitting the car on the white line and simply move to one side, knowing that each bike at the front of the queue is one less vehicle in it".
That or take the bus.

My opinion is tainted cos my parents live almost on the cat and fiddle, plenty of ******* riding bikes round here, all with a death wish.
Ive got out of my car and legged it after some **** on a 'busa that thought he could be a **** on the silk road and badly cut me up, he was gone on the silky but i guessed where he was headed and soon caught him in the twisties, he then got off at the pub and started actinh hard, then i got out and he **** himself!
Its like my view on horses, tainted by the selfish middle class ***** who think the road is exclusively for them and woe betide anyone who dares use their road.
Living in the countrty surrounded by those two types of fcukwits really makes me hate the sound of a bike cos i know it will be some **** wanting to race the scoob, or the sight of another rich kid ona horse too big for them being followed by mummy on fcking masssive horse gesturing and shouting at all and sundry to slow down when they are doing 30 in a 50 just cos her precious baby is riding her new horse, GET THE **** OFF THE ROAD AND INTO A FIELD.
BIKERS GET ON A TRACK AND DONT WEAVE IN AND OUT ON DUAL CARRIAGE WAYS AND WAIT YOUR TURN IN QUEUES ( or i will accidentally open my door to pick up my dropped cigarette just when you ride past to the front of the queue) not really

my missus is learing to drive now and is constantly told to look out for inconsiderate bikers, whats your point?

Yours was a brilliant read, absolute class, whereas I write narrow minded, inaccurate, selfish, full of sh*t drivel, wot I lack in intelligence I can't possibly make up for with stupidity.I'm the kind of person responsible for making this country wot it is,sadly I'm not alone. Well done me eh?!! You are workin class aren't yer?? Oh and my English is appalling

OMG,really, that arguement's convinced me,ban ALL motorbikes, save money, save lives, door mirrors. etc! Another workin class arguement, eh?

Think you hit the nail on the head there alcazar.
I'm not getting into the "good biker/bad biker" thingy. Suffice to say that if I had a £1 for every biker whose thinking I've had to do for him to avoid killing him, I'd be a rich lad.
By al means put the revs up if your wonder machine won't tickover, (get it fixed btw: you are wasting petrol)< but to sit just blipping the throttle is pure "look at me". Don't try to defend it, you can't.
If you are worried about drivers not seeing you because you came up behind them "filtering" down a line of traffic, there's an easy answer: DON'T DO IT.
And as for clown suits, yep, wear bright colours to be seen, but check out what they look like first please, or be branded clown.

Highway Code. section on "extra rules for motorcyclists" para 88 states:
88
Manoeuvring. You should be aware of what is behind and to the sides before manoeuvring. Look behind you; use mirrors if they are fitted. When in traffic queues look out for pedestrians crossing between vehicles and vehicles emerging from junctions or changing lanes. Position yourself so that drivers in front can see you in their mirrors. Additionally, when filtering in slow-moving traffic, take care and keep your speed low.

Motorcyclists and cyclists

It is often difficult to see motorcyclists and cyclists, especially when they are coming up from behind, coming out of junctions, at roundabouts, overtaking you or filtering through traffic. Always look out for them before you emerge from a junction; they could be approaching faster than you think. When turning right across a line of slow-moving or stationary traffic, look out for cyclists or motorcyclists on the inside of the traffic you are crossing. Be especially careful when turning, and when changing direction or lane. Be sure to check mirrors and blind spots carefully.

Having been a car driver for 23 years and a biker for only the last 3 of those years, I am stunned by some the poisoned, warped, vitriolic posts here by some.
Some people's attitudes to being on the road and their thought processes surrounding driving, genuinely scare me and its a sad reflection on the mind set of those individuals.
At the end of the day aren't we all just trying to get from A to B in one piece? careful consideration to all road users would go a long to making everyone's journey a safer, more pleasant experience rather than having to be seen as some kind of "death race" competition...........
If you want to filter and move ahead of traffic jams, learn to ride a bike.
if you don't want to filter, then sit in your car in the traffic jam with a nice warm heater and a banging toon on the radio and chill out a bit safe in the knowledge you are in a warmer, safer environment than the biker sat in front of you.

Kin ell Guy's, Woohoa.
Being both a tidy car and bike owner.
This is not funny.
I have the following, 06reg WRX STI at 400bhp and a 550bhp Turbocharged Suzuki B-King and i'm downright smug at the lights to be able too, if needed, outrun almost anything from the lights, so No i don't have to sit there revving either, but they do both sound good to me at least.
So B****x if ya don't think the same
Cheers Dave.

i actually believe that all people who now want to do there driving test should have to take a cbt and ride a bike on the road for at least 3 months before passing there tests. i can tell you now theres more car drivers that are ******* on the road then there are bike riders and the majority of the bad car drivers drive performance cars because they believe they have the superior vehicle.

I've been riding bikes for 28 years and driving for 26, I've got an STi PPP and a Fireblade but to be honest I don't feel the need to race away from the lights with either and if someone does pull up next top me, whether it be in a car or a bike that's filtered through the traffic, then let them go. I'm not sure if it's classed as old age or maturity but I've got nothing to prove. I do understand why some car drivers have an opinion on bikers but you cannot tar everyone with the same brush. I also have black leathers but a blue and white jacket, never bothered with the clown outfits as I find it hard to change gear with the big floppy shoes.
