Eat more Carrots , I refuse to believe that people actually fit these because they can't see well enough on dark lanes or wherever . A set of decent normal bulbs are perfectly suitable for any level of darkness .
Only reason i can see for the fitting of them is to bring the look of the car more upto date . Just my 2 pence worth

Fair play fella , like I said its only my 2 pence worth ! I thought the lights on my Blob were ok , when one went I replaced them for some brighter bulbs and ive not come across a situation yet where they have failed to light the road sufficiently , i would say ive got good eye sight but if you'd seen the missis you'd argue otherwise

That looks decent, do you have any pics of the cutoff now the lights have been aligned?

Where did you get the projectors from? Are they one for main, one for dip, or bi-Xenon?

Have been reading this thread with great interest as I don`t think the standard lights are up to much either. Considered putting jap hid lights into my blobeye as there would be no difference then between my car and an import. When I asked the dft what their stance was on it here is the reply -

"An imported Subaru would be expected to have either European Type Approval or pass the UK’s Individual Approval Scheme. In both cases if it was presented for approval with HID lights fitted but not automatic levelling or washers it would not be approved and so would not be acceptable for registration. If you are aware of any such vehicles then it is likely that the modification was made post approval and therefore in our view not acceptable.

If you intend to fit Hid lights to your vehicle you should comply with the requirements set out in the factsheet to be sure of complying with the law".

In light of the above (pardon the pun)how much of a difference would normal H1 lamps through projectors make ?

alcazar, the set up consists of 4 projectors the outer pair being the dipped beam, the inner pair the main beam. the projectors are manufactured by valeo and were purchased from oem-xenon parts in the states, as were the shrouds. the bulbs & ballasts were purchased of ebay. these are now fully aligned, pics to follow, so much so that i can drive about on dipped & main beam (all 4 projectors on) and have not been flashed once!

Those chavtastic xenon wannabees are bad enough on McDonalds car park, If you can't afford a vehicle which has proper factory xenons with headlight wash etc then don't.........just don't. Apart from the selfish act of blinding every road going vehicle with your mobile solar eruption they are an epic fail. It is the automotive equivalent of sticking a tin can under the mudguard of a BMX to make it sound like a motorbike. In fact it can only be equalled by wearing a '555 world rally team' Subaru Cap/Coat whilst driving your Subaru.

alcazar - yes i can drive with main beam on they do not point at the floor its just that with the projectors the cut off is flat with no spurious (posh word that) light scatter like you get with the hids in standard headlights.
i will try & get some pics showing the beam patterns for both dipped & main beam.

I'm surprised you can use main beams without being flashed. Let's be clear: by "main beams" I mean those used for long distance viewing when no-one is coming the other way?
Yes?

The others, with the sharp cutoff are dips.

Just so we are talking from the same script..............

PS: When I put my main beams on, I'd be flashed by every car coming.....

Ok so I recieved my HID kit last week and finally got round to fitting them.
I opted for the cheap ebay ones at £44 delivered.
Most of you on here will think I'm full of s**t and saying it but I am very impressed with the light output, dip beam is so much brighter and easier to drive with, full beam is much better than what it was but still lacks distance.

People mention bad scatter on full beam but these are better than the halogens I had fitted before (phillips something vision 90% brighter).

The Mrs hates driving in the dark and popped to the shop tonight which is about 2 mile away down a country road, she commented straight away how brighter the new lights were and felt safer driving with them.

The only downside I have with them is they are to blue I went for the 6000k and wish I had of got the 4300k, I feel the law may want a word with me about them soon.

Dipped beam.

Full beam

Burbling1 - were these HIDs fitted into normal lights? were they H4 HIDs? or something else? They look really good and dont seem to have the loads of "scatter" that I thought they would have!

Have you got crystal lights or some sort of projector lights and lastly any chance of a link to the HID seller on ebay?

Thanks

But you can clearly see two things on dip:

Firstly, the cutoff is flat, without the kick up to the left, and
Secondly, there IS loads of scatter, that's what the horizontal bands ABOVE the cutoff are.

The main beam shot displays the same problem, there is almost EXACTLY the same beam pattern as the dips, with the same evidence of scatter, just higher up

Yes, they ARE going to be brighter, but at a cost to other road users.
