I didn't think ANY BMW's had RFT with 19" wheels?

All the cost options for 19's are with normal tyres and 19's are only a cost option.

Now, I know our 5 is only a lowly 2.0d (with 19" non RFT) but I can honestly say I have never had a problem pulling away quickly on wet roads.

It also rides much better than one on 18" RFT's.

And to finish, I've never driven an Audi so I'm staying away from that argument (although I prefer the BMW interiors ).

Traction control interference is crap when you just want traction though

I just hate driving 2WD cars now, they feel broken when it rains.

Have to agree with that, having two AWD vehicles.

A 2WD feels like it's tip-toeing around.

Hmm - I find the BM absolutely fine in the rain. Even hammering rain. Sure I ease off a bit but with decent rain shedding tyres (CSC3s) it's fine. No issues at all -except the car getting really fricking mucky. I still give it full beans on frequent occasions.

Oh and I often turn traction "half off" or fully off (not in the rain) - it's a real hoot.

I'd have AWD on a 911 (to avoid flinging myself into a hedge) but I don't think sub 400bhp cars need it. In fact most of the "best" supercars are still RWD. AWD is for girls. Proper 4WD is for off roaders.

I think your BM has slightly more tyre shredding torque than mine, Mattee

(but mine goes further on a tankful )

AWD may be for girls, but if you want turbos on your Porsche you don't have a choice.

Zip - I thought yours had more than mine? And it's over 400bhp.

I'd have a 911 Turbo S (997.2) in a flash if I had the opportunity. Over any other car. Full stop.

A GT2 RS in snow/ice - do think it would be possible to move?!

I meant my BM - can't be loads of torque from a 2.0d.
My Pork has quite a bit more...

I'd certainly have the GT2 over a Turbo.
If it wasn't for those pesky kids...

John - A friend has a GTR and he says it has run flat tyres. Is this true?

I see - yes 428lbs-ft vs 258.

What's your 911 again?

A 996 Turbo S?

It does. And the ride is too firm (apart from the service intervals/cooling, this is the main downside vs the 911 Turbo), but the culprit there may be the springs which are a higher rate on the road GTR than on the GT1!

Tested on the same day against a 335i on 19" RFT, the 335i felt like a limo. However, bumps upset the 335i that don't upset the GTR. It is similar to an Evo IX or one of the more recent, more aggressive Scoobies (you know with those pretty firm Bridgestones with the sidewalls made of rocks but that grip nicely, MY 2005 onwards I think, RE070R?). Nothing like as soft as say a GC8 on 205/50R16.

Some report going wobbly when changing to non-RFT, although I'd change to them for a road car. I only changed the rear tyres recently, when a set is needed I'll try non-RFT.

My mate changed all 4 of his and he kept RFT but not the same as the originals that were on it. I have a 335i on 19 RFT and agree my mates GTR is bumpier when cruising, I think this is why the dash on his GTR rattles quite a bit as does something in the rear. Bothare firm but nothing that I'd complain about or would stop me buying either.

It's actually just a 996 Turbo but with the X50 pack - so the same engine as the Turbo S (and GT2) but without the PCCB's and a few interior bits.

Standard X50 is 450 bhp, and about 450lbs-ft (610 Nm).

However, every un-modified X50 I know that has been on a dyno (that'll be 4) has made 470 - 480 bhp.

Every standard 335d I know of has been over a rather more modest 300bhp...!

Might map mine just to spite you - 510lbs-ft.

Still 100++ bhp short though.

If I were to throw a couple of £k at mine I'd get over 550lbs-ft on the standard internals.

I don't see the point, to be honest.
Apart from being able to brag on car websites...

TBH I think that's what a lot of remapping is about. Pub bragging rights.

Some 335Is around with mental power - near 500bhp. But the 35d "stops" at 350bhp/510lbs-ft - anything more than that is just not worth doing.

In the spirit of this thread do it because your ***** will fizz with pleasure. Do it and don't tell anyone. If you have only one ball, do it and that ball will fizz more. If you have no *****, do it and you'll grow a ball. Especially on an X50, it is made to be boosted higher

Remapping is far more than pub bragging rights. Done well, it makes an already good car into a great car.

Nice result spider. Did evolve do the remap?

John don't take this the wrong way but I wonder whether you actually like driving? Or do you just want to go as fast as possible with the car doing it for you?
Your choice of car ie scoob, evo, gtr and rs6 etc. These are turbo charged 4wd cars that aren' actually pmuch fun to drive.it

You also often talk about the lack of traction in some cars. I get the feeling you just want to press the gas pedal as hard as possible and let the car sort it out for. Why not learn some throttle control instead? I had to learn this when deploying th e 507 bhp of the m5 and it was fun

How did you find evolve in general? They are one of very few companies who are hopefully on the verge of cracking the f10 diesel ecu.

I wonder if they'll be able to add 80 BHP to my 535d or is the diesel engine less tuneable?

I'd have thought a turbo diesel would be as tunable as an N/A petrol?

Just as an example, this company have some perceived before and after figures (can't quantify how genuine these are, though)

evolve,

i have had 2 remaps before this one, on other cars, (sc) did not talk thought it, just did it, here are the keys have fun :-( Evolve talked to me as they did it, RR std then check for any problems, mapped it, then took me for a test drive :-), then check for any problems again, top job, 9/10 (tryed to get me to buy downpipes for 400bhp) this car is so tunable

Evolve can get the 335d to 350bhp/500lbs-ft so should get the new f10 diesel more when they crack it

zip106 the 335i is twin turbo too ;-)

I guess they add the '5' to differentiate from the single turbo 3.0?

Funny, but the more you lot go on about these cars the more I think about having a 335d coupe instead of the Alpina D3.

Please, just stop!
