I also have no active/virtual limited slip diff at the moment either as the ABS has died - of which it relies upon to work (I just use the handbrake instead anyway).

Do you have a date for delivery yet Ding?
Was reading a review in a local paper about the 535d and couldn't believe it would get a combined economy figure of over 46mpg and yet still do 0-60 in 5.5 seconds.
I know you've been used to the M5, but the feeling from that torque must make up for some of the power you'll be losing....

BM diesel mpg figures are rather optimistic however all x35 (diesel and petrol) units belt out more power than quoted - much more in some cases.
Had a cracking drive in mine yesterday. And got under 30mpg...!

Ok I've only had 2 BM's to compare figures, but I found them surprisingly close to the official figures.
Never tested power though so can't comment there, but if what you say is correct, that's pretty amazing. I dare say there's still the odd one that doesn't make full power though...
What torque should the last 35d unit produce after a remap? 500 lbs ft in the e60 wasn't it?

Hi drb5,
dealer rang me today to say should be with me on/around 21st. It's an agonising wait as I'm driving a Honda Jazz at the moment!
To be honest if I get 30mpg after hard driving I'll be happy. The M5 took SUL which at present is 135p and gave me 13mpg. Diesel is 130p and combined with 30mpg vs 13mpg means my fuel bills will be a third of what they were. I also get the feeling I'll never feel the car is underpowered. Ok I can't go supercar baiting, but hey ho I don't really drive like that anymore
Thanks for asking and have a good weekend

oh and for the record my steering is better than any BMW i have driven thanks (and i have driven most of them)
lets not turn this into a bitter debate eh

Really? Most people I've spoken to who have owned the E60 535d or similar have been really happy with them. It seems to do its job well ie be a family car of about the right proportions that has a decent amount of poke, returns a good mpg and can be hustled around a bit when needed.
What is there to get bored about? It's a family saloon, I'm going to drive my kids around in it it not marry it or try and be its best friend.
Hopefully the F10 won't have some sort of fundamental flaw. You know, something like the suspension being so bad that I need to chuck it a way a replace it with an aftermarket job just to make it ride properly and stop breaking down

Can't say i EVER found our E60 boring and we only had the 30d. It isn't a sportscar, but you buy these things knowing that.
Nice one Ding....genuinely looking forward to seeing the pics now! Seen a white SE on the road the other day and although i've always liked the styling, the white look fabulous! I was thinking the white was a phase and would pass soon, but with so many new cars coming out and folk continuing to buy, it may be here longer than i thought.
Brother and sis-in-law have a Jazz and although it's fine if your after a car like that.....no, i wouldn't have one! I feel your pain. I suppose the only benefit from driving such a motor is you'll appreciate the F10 more when you finally get it. lol

Alan, you diidn't llike the 5 and chopped it for something else, we are all different and have different needs and tastes. It would be boring if we all thought the same.
I don't think I'll find the 535d slow or boring because I'm not buying it thinking I'm buying a sports car. Remember the new 5 is bigger and heavier, its made on a revised 7 series platform. But that's what I wanted, a comfortable family car with a decent amount of poke for over taking. I'm still not sure what anyone could find mind numbingly boring about a normal (ie non amg/rs/M Power ) family saloon. Its there to do a job, thats all, its not meant to get the hairs on the back of your neck standing up.
If I find it's not the right sort of car for me and want something fast again then it will have to be proper fast with spot on handling. I would then find your car too slow and handling too compromised. It would fall into a no mans land of neither comfortable frugal cruiser nor supercar rivalling super saloon.
I would then consider the new M5 or the new E class AMG when it comes out (don't like the current shape). Tbh, I don't think that will happen, just cant see when//where I'd use all that power.
Looking forward to your pics

Yes white looks really nice. I almost went for white but thought it might look a bit showy.
If and thats a BIG if, I go for the M5 then it will be white. There is a rumour that a carbon fbre roof might be an option, in whwich case white with a CF roof and gunmetal/anthracite wheels will look just awesome

I reckon by the time the new M5 is here the white fad will have past.
At the moment I'm stuck on colour choice for the Alpina - Mineral White (pearl) looks fab but the wife doesn't want white and all our mates have got white cars.

You were always going to find the 5er slow compared to that power and it's a completely different kind of car too. S6 is defo along the same lines....turbo/supercharger kit available?

I actually think white cars do look quite smart, RR accepted off course they look naff
but I am old enough to remember when white Golf/Astra GTI's were all the rage in the eighties, and when they start to look dated they really date quickly
thanks for the wife comment, like the Audi interior the old girl is wearing quite well

Alan - while banging on about your S6 at the expense of any BMW, you seem to forget how poorly it was received by the press. I was looking forward to it when I heard about it but once again, Audi made a fast car with dire steering, numb handling and dodgy brakes. Fair enough being enthusiastic but you ruin it by telling us how much better it is than a 535d. Now I am willing to bet that like some others, all that matters to you is power and grip. Never mind the driver interaction, never mind well balanced handling. It's all about sledgehammer power. I could likened it to the big, heavyweight boxer who lacks skill so relies on power. Impressive to some, dull to those actually in the know.
Also disappointed at those having a pop at DDs imminent and desirable motor. I suspect most of the detractors have never and will never drive one and of course, most certainly cannot afford one.
