Audi make another rubbish RS

Relatively narrow tyres ? even boggo Astras have 225's on them these days, in the nineties that was the preserve of borderline supercars, cars nowadays have massive grip compared to those from the past and loads of electronics for when it runs out.

I think you made a big mistake there, the TTRS is a gem. Once remapped it is quicker than the R8 and offers genuine supercar performance for very little outlay. It looks stunning, build quality is impressive, it's relatively cheap to run with a 30mpg return and it will hold its value well.
They are releasing it with S-tronic in the next few weeks or so which will make it even more of a gem.

S-Tronic? Man-up and buy a manual.

They do indeed! Mine had 17" 225s which I thought was a bit OTT. The BM with almost double the power has the same size rubber but seems to cope fine. I think a lot of cars are overtyred and overwheeled.

If memory serves me right, the manual does 0-100 in 10.9secs, and here's a review of the auto doing the ton in 10.3secs.

Not bad from a 335bhp motor, easily 9 sec 100 times when mapped

Yeah its quicker, but its more boring. Next thing you'll want is auto steering and auto brakes (actually most modern VAG's do have steer/park assist capeability and they are working on getting the ESP to "help" steer the car for the driver when in trouble - scary)
Plus the damper valve on the clutch pedal fitted to the manuals slows down the gear change speed of most VAG manuals: Side step the clutch on many modern VAGs and you'll note the pedal takes between 0.25 to 0.5 seconds to come fully back up. It physically prevent you being too brutal with it (probably a good thing after the warranty has expired ), I'm amazed that so few people notice it (or is it just me who does hard standing start launches?).

I'm with you there. Took delivery of my 370Z last December (17th) and it sat in my garage for the next couple of months.
Tried to get it out of the Garage (down a cobled lane) a few times, where it got stuck on the slightest bit of snow/ice. One time I thought I wasn't going to get it back in again.
I won't be trying that again this year.

no chance of that this winter though as I am prepared

A guy at work has a MY07 RS4 Avant, and has had nothing but problems with it.... which is apparently quite common.
Just had his letter through to extend the warranty.... over £1700!!!!

My friends brother-in-law also has one, and again has had big problems, including a blown engine after less than 25k miles.

Twice for suspension problems, and once for a kinked pipe under the inlet manifold.... which they tried to say was wear and tear and charged £900+ to fix. (there were other issues, but can't remember what they were)

he has been robbed then as my warranty is only 600 a year and covers absolutely everything to the value of the car.Suspension problems are a known problem with all performance Audi's and 9 times out of ten they are replaced with coilovers rather than refit the unreliable DRC suspension. The only other problems with them are suspect gearboxes (fine if car is left standard) and the intercoolers are prone to leaks other than that the engines are bomb proof

For out and out pace, the S-tronic is going to be the quicker car.

Haven't heard any horror stories about RS6's/R8's

My old man had a RS4, and it didn't have a single problem. Nothing on his R8 either.
Guess all manufacturers have `those` cars that go wrong.

My RS6 (earlier shape one) is superior to my 535d m sport in every way and is much nicer (and faster) than any of my 3 previous imprezas including Spec C and Type R.I will no doubt get bored of the 520bhp at some point and want something different but not until the kids are a bit bigger

I'm guessing that is the Audi dealer warranty extension Gary? i know main dealer warranty is scandalous and a lot of the technicians arent clued up on RS models as they aren't as mainstream as the ordinary models. If i was him i'd definatly look into a Warranty Direct extra care policy which is half the price and the work can be done at specialists rather than tied to main dealer
