Metric Martyrs .....
Having spent a lot of years in the building trade, I can confirm that a strange hybrid of metric and imperial is in use - at least informally.
"Fifty metres of 3 be 2", "Thats three metres and an eighth of an inch" etc. etc. Only last week I had a customer ask me to order a piece of oak that was exactly seven inches by thirty mil, and three metres long, lol.
