No, I just think you have to take scriptures less literally. For instance do you really believe Mary was a virgin? These scriptures record events alledgedly from centuries ago and are fashioned into fables, parables and verses that have been interpreted many times over throughout the centuries.

I am not denying what the scripture says and I know you can find plenty of pages on the net written by Jews and Christians using this at face value as yet another reason to point out how evil the Muslim faith is, but really it is just not as simple as that.

I don't expect you to come back with anything other than the usual rhetoric, but I stand by what I said.... your comments were unnecessary, at best not helpful to the debate and at worst inflammatory.

 

I would add that, in the 21st century, The Papacy does not sanction, on behalf of a 7th century warlord (who claims to be the literal and final messenger of God) the murder of anybody that chooses to leave the fold (apostacy). This isn't scaremongering, this is absolutely factual. Just to spell it out: you're born a Muslim, compelled to submit to Allah and, if you choose to permantly leave Islam (there is strict adherance to this within the Sunni tradition), you are to be executed. It makes martyrdom one hell of an attractive proposition. 95% of Great Britain's 2.4 million Muslims are Sunni.

Actually, the book says that the historical figure, Muhammad, 'shagged' just the one nine year old. Allah couldn't have 'shagged' a nine year old because he's never existed.

Yes! Mary was a virgin. The child concieved in her was by the Holy Spirit. He was and is Jesus the Son of Almighty God. He died on the cross to take the punishment for sin (rebellion against God) that rightfully should be ours. We just need to accept this and ask the Lord to forgive us our sins and we can be made right with him though the sacrifice of his Son.

if you have grand parents ask them what age they got married they will tell you 18 ask them when there gran parents were married they will tell 15-16. if you go back 1000 years ago there were no clubs yes there were ***** houses but you couldn't chat up a bird in the street and take her home people got married when they hit puberty.

Some may argue that the old proverb, the enemy of my enemy is my friend, comes in to play, here. The Judeo-Christian tradition (irrespective of the thesitic debate), has proved able to co-exist with liberal democratic secular principles and makes no claim to ideological primacy. The same cannot be said of Islam and it saddens me when Muslim contributors highlight this.

I get your concerns (and must stress that my issue is not with passive Muslims, it's with the hierachy within which they're locked) however, these concerns cannot and should not be used to hush up the facts around Islam and, more importantly, Islamism. Yes, we'll get ignorant misrepresentations being spat out by some but, this is small beer relative to the importance of open dialogue.

Well for a start where does Mohammed actually explicitly describe the Earth being round and bacteria existing, and how do you know someone did not just add that to Koran years later?

I've often heard it said the Koran contains the exact speed of light. My take is that if you write a massive book and fill it with metaphor and loads of stuff, then someone reading it in the future is bound to infer some meaning from said randomness....to project meaning into it.
