Brown and Darling led the world in dealing with the unfolding harrowing experience .... to say that Labour was responsible for the world downturn is pathetic, childish and really stupid.
Yet Labour left the nations finances in a record bad state, and had stoked a housing boom. Hardly a great state to be in when the US subprime crisis hit? In fact it was a dreadful state to be in.

You may remember that Brown initially refused to nationalise Northern Rock, they dithered for months promoting uncertainty.

Who failed to ensure sufficient regulation of UK banks anyway? If they had not been so highly leveraged they could have weathered the US crisis.

But it wasn't just UK banks with insufficient regulation.
Just look at Anglo Irish bank as another fine example

Someone please explain then:

The septics banking system went down the crapper
The effect was felt in the UK
The UK Banks started to go to the wall
The UK Government "bought in" to the UK banks by some £850 Billion pounds
The money still sits within the banking system - i.e. owed to the HMG
Therefore why are we struggling - get the banks to pay the deficit back over a period of time, sort of like a "Bank Loan"

Sorted - DCI for Prime Minister

Who did ?

So spending money we didnt have and borrowing record amounts to support the ridiculous Quango's, the million odd jobs for the boys in the public sector and crazy spending spree's has nothing to do with this country's perilous state ? it was all down to the US mortgage situation ? denial is a harsh attitude.

As for Darling and Brown I wouldn't trust them with the milk money, Gold, pensions etc etc they behaved like they were at a car boot sale.

To be fair though we shouldn't blame Brown for everything, his previous boss started this mess and Brown compounded it with his bloody mindedness.

But if it makes it easier on the conscience to blame the yanks.....

Who were you blaming in 78 ??

Same **** 32 years later

So much for your ridiculing of the Tories about "we're all in this together" and the ordinary man on the street. It seems you're no better, wanting the ordinary man on the street taxpayers' money to line your own pockets

Anyway you asked
There you go again Martin. making assumptions as ever without the facts to back them up.

You forget that I have said often enough that I am apolitical and will support any government which will do good for the country.

You also forget that I have praised Old Labour in the days when they worked honestly on behalf of the people rather than their own careers as happens now, and none more than with NL.

When it comes to your accusation over my reference to Billy Liar, I will not retract it since i know I am right. I would go so far as to say that you are sadly deficient in your observations since you don't seem to have noticed it. Right from the very start in fact!

Yes decisions can be difficult, but the last lot of wassocks seemed to get them unerringly wrong but they always favoured their own secret agenda of course.

Look at the state of this country Martin, how has it come to such a sorry pass? You cannot blame Cameron for that yet at least. Look at the state of the judiciary and the rest of the authorities which are still littered with the PC Plonkers who are dragging this country down. How long will it take to deal with a £1 trillion National Debt which your grandchildren will be liable for?

Tell us what they did which was so good for our country Martin!

Les.

Les, just by saying it doesn't actually make it true, especially when followed by literally hundreds of complete on-sided comments

And don't make me laugh about 'old' Labour, they could get themselves elected, a fact you forget

I am afraid I just don't understand what you are saying. Are you calling me a liar? You had better be able to justify it if you are.

Your second comment needs translation.

Scraping the barrel just won't work Martin. You will have to do better than that!

Are you now using the old mantra of 'the best form of defence is attack'?

Please tell me where I said you are a liar, the ONLY person making those kind of kind of claims is you surely?

I'm ever so slightly astonished by your comment Les!

Let's all just remember what Labour did, what they HAD to do.

They borrowed money to save the Banks from going under - and taking all our savings/pensions/jobs with them!

The Tories said, "Do Nothing" remember? "Let the Banks Fold", they said.

Now, who knows what would have happened had we let the Banks sort themselves out ... I suspect that we would have sunk as a nation. Life savings wiped out, pensions gone, stock market collapsed.

That's why the UK under Labour borrowed to save the country - just as every other western country did ... in fact they followed Labours lead!

OK, now we must pay back the borrowed money - so be it, far better to have to do that than have nothing!

Thank you for quoting what I said Hodgy, saved me the trouble.

You should remember what you posted Martin, saves possible embarrassment!

What would anyone be expected to think when you say that what I said does not actually make it true. The only thing to take out of that is that you are accusing me of not telling the truth.
