Sadly it wont be ready, there was something i wasnt quite happy with when putting the engine together for the final time (or so i thought), and i am now having to pull it apart again to check whats going on.

sorry to hear the bad news, but its better to be safe and get it right than rush into it and have to strip it back down again because of failure.

Bit of an update.

Since the first batch of pics, i have had to pull the engine apart twice. Once to counter sink the holes for the head studs, as the threads started at the top of the deck. This was due to a machine shop mistake, and me not spotting it till the headstuds went in and they all sat at different heights!

The second time, was after i had corrected the above and had all the studs sat at equal heights. It wasnt until the heads went on, that it became clear the thread in the block wasnt deep enough, and the head studs were 25mm too proud. Back apart and correct the error.

Sounds easy, but is very difficult to do when they have already been partially tapped.

Block now fully rebuilt, both heads on, just need to change a couple of buckets to get cam clearance within tolerance. Should be in the car by the end of the week.

Nasty, but par for the course with an "extreme" build no doubt.

At least it will be nicely run in for TOTB...

Long block now built, cams re shimmed. Tonight i will strip down the old oil pump, clean and reassemble, then fit the sump and water pump, and then its ready for timing up the cams!

Car is also no longer in the barn, its in my workshop.

Lol, those RCM belts guides are like hens teeth mate. Almost impossible to buy.

Just for your info (Unless its been sorted by now)

The connection on the uppipe/turbocharger flange on the RCM is poor. Its is just pushed in to the flange and only tack welded into place. It leaks when used. You might want to get it seam welded all the way around before using it. And yes i am talking about this the latest 2nd generation RCM setup.

Another vote for close inspection here, as Arf's RCMS supplied (?) manifold was just about at the falling off stage when he checked it.

That's certainly not the case with this kit. The up pipe is shaped to the turbo flange, pushed in, tig welded on the inside at the top, and then tig welded for 15/20mm on each edge of the underside of the flange. In other words a very STRONG design.

Cambelt guides came back in stock at the end of last week

Tip top Steven,

Like i said, (Unless its been sorted by now) so sounds like its been covered. Just wanted to make you aware while you had a chance to do something about it should it require it.

Ive been waiting about 6 weeks for the poxy belt guide, hence why my covers are still off.

Arf's didn't look THAT secure... but after a hard life...

Not a comment on quality of the RCMS parts, just their condition upon inspection.

dunx

P.S. After Cadwell he found the FMIC end-tank was split from base to apex... so only 1 bar of boost...
