Really? so why has my insurance gone from £350 in the first year to £580 two years down the line?
Age 35, 16 years no claims, 3 points (sp30)
Direct line, 03 WRX. Postcode RH14 (now moved to RH20).

Previous fast(ish) car owned was an XR4x4 when I was 19 (it got knicked 16 years ago).

Dunno.... you'd have to ask Direct Line

They might have done it too cheap the first year (£350 is the lowest price i've ever heard of in a RH postcode) and have now increased their price to get nearer the market rate

I did ask direct line and was told it was down to the fact that a lot of people have been putting in personal injury claims in the last year that has increased all premiums.
After phoning around a lot of insurers I was also told by a lot of insurance companies that they won't even insure an Impreza, and by others that young drivers are buying them, paying thousands for insurance, and then wrapping them round the nearest oak tree they can find because they can not handle the car (begs the question why insurance companies even insure drivers under 25).

Will be giving you a bell come April though, see what you can come up with.

That's either a story they've made up, or they have been insuring the wrong people.

Our Subaru claim stats are MASSIVELY lower than the average, and are possibly our best performing car from a claims point of view, hence our prices increases are very small compared to others.

Feel free to get in touch at renewal time and i'll see what i can do

(I am in a RH postcode myself)

Think it was Adrian Flux that said about the young drivers claiming, they couldn't come close to my renewal premium.
Do you have an office in RH6, I am in that area every day.

Not sure if the quote was wrong for the first year, it was surprising though, considering that was with protected no claims bonus cover so the premium was just over £300 without that. I did get online quotes from them on various other cars and they were all low for the cars I was looking at, I even ran a **** take quote for a RR Phantom just for a laugh and that came in at £480!

Just to prove that it's all about the postcode, my insurance dropped because I moved to Scotland. This year's quote was just under £100 lower than last year when I lived in Kent

Cheers Gary

But emigrating to Scotland just for cheap insurance is a bit extreme isn't it

Jon, it may be considered extreme yes, but we also get the benefit of miles and miles of empty and gorgeous roads, plus fast jets

But the fast jets are full of blokes and wimmens with their heads stuck firmly up their own asses (you're not an RAF pilot are you).

Lincoln, Norfolk and Afghanistan are also full of fast jets, although I wouldn't fancy the insurance quote for Afghanistan

Default Update required !

Well I figured this needed updating, and I would like to thank Gary at Keith Michaels for an excellent service once again. Considering the price hike recently across all insurance I still got a decent price that im pleased with

Just done my insurance for my modified 06 WRX today funnily enough. Renewal was £840 for myself & wife, me 3 points 35 years old, 6 years NCB.

Got quotes ranging from £1700 to £580 in the end full comp, protected NCB, etc etc. Amazing spread as always!

Thanks again Moley you were very close but I will be calling you again next year as usual.

Ouch, thats not right unless there is something your not telling us. My postcode area isnt great due to car crime some 25 miles away, but im affected by it all. I would be ringing around mate, the obvious ones for me would be Keith Michaels (ask for Gary Moulson), Green light (ask for Tony), Sky & Aplan.

There is nothing in this for me, but if you are a genuine decent driver, with a clean lic then I wish you all the best.

The first quote depending on the motor might be about right for where you reside. Dont worry about the range, each insurance co specialise in certain areas of insurance, ie for me Keith Michaels was half the price of some of the other leading ins co's, but they clearly are not interested in high performance vehicles.

You certainly need to do some homework before buying a car these days. The Hawk is over £400 year tax isnt it? The blobeye 2005<< is £260 ish. As for the rest of the cost for running they are all the same. As for Performance vehicles in general, if its burdens that much look into a track car only, and buy a cheap oil burner, that way you can have fun at weekends and still reap the benifits from cost saving, however if the bug of track days gets a hold of you then you will ikely end up spending a fortune on this too

aye i did, then brought the wrong car shiny car

mines before the cut off, so only 260quid a year (cut off being march 2006 i think)
and i only really use it at the weekends as i can walk to work

but every now and again do a trip 500 - 600 miles etc and then its a killer for fuel heh
still dont fancy a oil burner mind!

the car doesnt seem to have cost me much more than the CTR i used to run for years tbh its not just the scoob thats starting to make me begrudge all the costs
but like i say get mine back tomorrow hopefully so im sure all will be forgiven then :P
