To be quite honest this thread & all such thraeds are quite sh%te!!!!! I should'nt even have bothered commenting in the first place. lolol
Iv had all sorts of cars from not so fast Honda Civics & Golfs, to averagly fast differing BMW's to a 350z, TVR's, M3, Spec C & now a GC8 Type R. I can honestly say that in almost 90% of all fast road driving match ups with other cars it has always been about the driver. I have outrun more "on paper" - fast cars in my old N reg Honda Civic 1.5lsi than in any other of my cars!! Its all about the driver IMO & he's skill in getting the most out of that car. One of the very few occasions in over 15 years of driving where the car really did matter was when e.g. an SL55 AMG, driven by a blondie mullered me off the lights to 70mph & beyond & I was in am E36 M3, I nailed it spot on & did everything right but that was too much an ask! Or when a tuned RS4 estate left me for dead while on a motorway & I was in my TVR! Apart from few such occasions its always been about how skilled the driver is or at times Iv seen, how stupid/risky a driver is.
A couple of days ago I was driving a family members Merc Clk180 kompressor, a gutless, awful car. But for a period of 3 to 4 mins of driving, around Watford's A roads & roundabouts, a yound lad in Renault Megane Sport couldnt come close to keeping up. On paper he should have anhialted me but I wrung the neck out of that supercharged little engine, keeping it on boost throughout & going through roundabouts lifting the inside back wheel & making that rubbish Merc chasis do more than it was ever designed to do. It was great fun & in fact more entertaining than driving a proper, powerful sports car!!

Ok so here's a question for you all:
Let's compare performance of car a) and car B):
a) nomally aspirated, 4.0 litre, 1500kg, 6spd, 2wd and produces 300/300.
b) turbo 2 litre, 1500kg, 6 spd, 2wd and also produces 300/300.
Some would have us believe that car a) will be "better at high speeds" since it has a larger capcity engine, but why should that be? Is there any scientific/technical reason? Should they both not have te same acceleration all the way through the range as all aother parameters are the same?

Assuming you have quoted peak figures, how do the respective power and torque curves compare?
Aerodynamics?
That's a starter and a bonus for 5 [/QUOTE]
Fair 'nuff.
The point I was making was - if absolutely everything else is the sam about two cars other than one get's it power from smallish turbo engine and another gets exactly the same power and torque from a large normally aspirated engine, a lots of people seem to thing that the large cc car will come out on top.
Why should that be?
5 points per answer up to maximum of 15 in this round.

OK, I can only guess that if a small turbo and large n/a have identical power/torque/aerodynamics/drivetrain/gearing etc characteristics then they would have pretty much identical performance.
Think the point though is that they are inherently different in their characteristics. Think also some of the comments may come when comparing high powered RWD cars with a large n/a engine to high powered AWD cars that happen to be small engined and have a turbo - the AWD will suffer from higher loss of power through the drivetrain and I hear this manifests itself most at higher rpm (i.e. higher speeds) hence the 2wd pulls better at higher speeds.
May be complete nonsense of course

The 335i is a quick car and would pretty much power past any standard subaru on a straight run, but it is pretty uninvolving to drive, the computers ruin most things. I know, I have just moved from an E60 M5 for this very reason.
