Once you start going fast power to weight doesn't matter so much.
Its all about how much hp you have. As you battle aero drag.
So im not surprised over 100mph the bmw won.
Of course if you factored in the price difference and spent it on mods for the P1 @ RCM...

After selling my scooby to get a bmw back in february, i been waiting to play with a scooby, to see how my bmw compares.
On sunday i found a nice p1 wanting some fun, i followed him for about 5 miles down country roads, he couldnt lose me, he powered out of the corners better then me, (i need a LSD) only for me to catch him up
we ended up on a dual carriage, and i over took him after a ton.
This bmw is a wolf in sheeps clothing, with all the toys your ever need too, the perfect all rounder

BMW.co.uk figures for the 335i Coupe are 1615kg and 306hp = 189bhp/tonne
Suggested P1 figures on here are 1250kg and 276bhp = 221bhp/tonne
I'd expect the P1 to win 0-100 but as has already been mentioned aerodynamics, drivetrain losses and ultimate hp will make the 335i faster over 100 or around that sort of figure.
Does anybody really care though, they are hardly direct market competitors.

By the second page i got bored..........zzzzzzzzzzzz
Just enjoy your cars lads and leave it at that and if you want something silly to argue about how about this.....i beat a 997 4CS to 30mph the other day in my 1 brake man power 27 speed bike, there was a tail wind and a slight gradient, oh and i'd just filled the tank with Lucozade Sport......all sorts of variables there for you to go at.

335i vs m3 e46
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=639YdES_IIA
Stock vs stock these two cars are very similar. The M3 definitely takes it on the track. However, the 335i is underrated and actually makes closer to 330HP and 330 lb ft...search a dyno on the car. It has more torque across a wider band than the E46 M3 and that is the main reason it is slightly faster in a straight line. Also, if that 335i was tuned, it would have crushed that stock M3. V2 335i goes 0-60 in 4.2 secs and a 1/4 mile in 12 flat...MUCH faster than a stock E46 M3.

Smells like bull**** to me and even if it's true the P1 probably wasn't even racing. Absolute bollocks. VXRs, 3 series beemers, cupras etc etc etc I've heard all this bs before unless they're modified and the P1 is standard and/or not racing and it has to be a straight in the dry then maybe but the ****ing thing will be quicker it's 280bhp as standard, weighs 1270kgs and still after 10 years pisses over 90% of cars on the road let alone the tuned P1s. I've only had a few cars keep up with me and none of them were poncey 335 rep mobiles or shopping trolley fwd hatchbacks. Goes to show how highly rated the scoob is that all the wannabes try to use it as a benchmark to prove thier cars are quick.

This thread just goes to show how good the Subaru is. It shows that a simple 10 year-old P1 worth about 6 -8k can out-corner the current computerized 36k BMW 335i and will only really lose out on long straights or at licence-losing speeds of over 100 mph.
Probably not as comfortable, mind.

I would have thought my username made it obvious, you mongo . Nothing delusional about it, as standard the P1 still beats most cars three times the price and now mines tuned up there's even less that can keep up... but of course there are faster cars out there just not that many ive come across .
Sounds to me like the OP misses owning a proper drivers car and is trying to convince himself that buying an overpriced german rep mobile was a good idea, just like all those vxr owners who drive past a scooby on the motorway and start talking bs on message boards that they 'beat an sti' .
I'll stick to the P1 thanks, quick on all roads in any condition and doesnt drive (or look like) a barge

Ok so here's a question for you all:
Let's compare performance of car a) and car B):
a) nomally aspirated, 4.0 litre, 1500kg, 6spd, 2wd and produces 300/300.
b) turbo 2 litre, 1500kg, 6 spd, 2wd and also produces 300/300.
Some would have us believe that car a) will be "better at high speeds" since it has a larger capcity engine, but why should that be? Is there any scientific/technical reason? Should they both not have te same acceleration all the way through the range as all aother parameters are the same?

Well there is no standard Astra, Corsa or Vectra VXR as quick as a P1/STI. Sure there are tuned VXRs which are quicker in a straight line, after a rolling start, in the dry, on an even surface, but thats my point all conditions have to be in favour of the VXR.
There seem to be loads of 'I destroyed an STI in my [insert moderately powerful car]' posts floating around at the moment and most the time standard for standard the other car is nowhere near as quick as the scooby and either the scooby wasnt racing or the other car was tuned.
Nevertheless I take it as a good thing that the Impreza is still seen as the benchmark quick car to beat (put it this way you don't get scooby drivers bragging that they beat an Astra or a German rep mobile )

335i vs P1
kerb weight - 1610kg vs 1283kg [327kg delta]
bhp - 302 vs 276
torque - 295 vs 260
bhp/t - 191 vs 219
0 to 60 - 5.3s vs 4.9s [4WD advantage?]
0 to 100 - 13.1s vs 13.3s
60 to 100 - 7.8s vs 8.4s
Quarter mile - 14s vs 13.33s
Seems pretty close after all
