I knew this thread would end up a great platform for the cat haters.

A lot of pedigree cats never see the outside.

In the US lots of cats never see outside, and have been de-clawed.

Absolute nonsense Les.

Wife has an indoor cat - VET says that it won't do it a bit of harm and will prevent it from being squashed by a car

I think that all animals need to feel grass under their feet, but I suppose what they have never had they dont miss but what a boring existence with no opportunity to indulge in their instinctive behaviour. I just think about our Dog mooching about the house looking bored but then what he is like charging round, sniffing, p1ssing, running, jumping, chasing, barking etc etc when out off the lead, in his element, fulfilling his brief as a Dog.

I suppose its different with Cats, the dog goes in the garden and surveys his territory but cant escape due to the fence and lack of climbing ability but a Cat can do its own thing, which near a main road is dangerous, especially for a young cat given the way some drive, even with the best driving in the road a Cat running out is hard to anticipate as they move so fast and people seem to look at like hitting a Rabbit almost, not someones treasured pet, so a tough call, ours lived in and outside for 17 years and was fine.

I am glad she is happy, as you said earlier at least she has not been an outside cat before so does not know what it is like.

We have always had cats which know the outside so they could never have been kept indoors to be fair to them.

The one point I will stick to is that they are naturally an outside creature and I personally feel they should be allowed to have that bit of freedom. I can understand that living in an apartment can make that difficult to do however.

You are entitled to disagree with me of course, but to accuse me of saying absolute nonsense is incorrect and also somewhat rude when you consider the nature of cats.
