Bob,
Mmmm..... it's "interesting" what some individuals state about Meth and even normal petrol "shelf life".
John said to me off-line that the AD08's were great, but I've read that they have pretty high road noise..... worse than 888's. Any truth in this and what are the wear rates like?
What are they like in the wet?
John,
Your second sentence says it all John!!

This time I can help
I had AD08 in 235 and 245 sizes, both on track and road, and I can say one thing : for now this is my best tyre !
Grip is good, but better : you can grip and slip a bit at same time to keep mobility of your car. On wet track, its funny because you're confident (hard braking apart ) You lose grip but not totally as with federal 595RSR..
Also theses tyres have extra durability : 2000kms with 595RSR, nearly 3000 with AD08 ! The worst mileage for me : eagle F1AS (10min on track with white smoke on tail), and.. R1R : with only 1 trackday.. mmh I give you a pic :
I heard R1R and 888 share the same rubber.
Now I have better settings and last trackday on wet conditions was friendly for my tyres - ok I had 1b3 and not 1b6 - too much rain and I cant resolve my on/off boost.
The other usual pb for me is temperature : on my regular track, sunny day >20°C outside, 8-12min with federal, no limit time with AD08, just warnings so I cool down and back soon to wot without even leave the track
For noise.. no idea, I dont drive this car as a daily one.

Maxtrash,
Thanks for that information..... something certainly worth considering for a future track tyre. It's a shame that you have no road experience of the AD08, as that is the immediate remit.

Just buy the things Shaun. If they are good enough to lap Porshes on the Nurburgring GP track in the wet, they will do fine for you in the wet. Dry grip and road manners are excellent, they will be a vast improvement over your RE070's, which i condemed how long ago now?

For some of the **** things you ask about stuff, that is probably one of the more sensible things I have ever asked in my life. I'm not about to pay £600 for a set of tyres that will be useless in 7k miles, regardless of how much of my money you'd like to spend. Call it a sign of maturity..... something you've got about a 10yrs head start on the rest of us "young uns".

If you saw the driveway i had to drive up to get home in snow or ice you wouldnt be laughing at the thought of winters. It was hilareous going up the hills past all the stranded cars last week, i wouldnt have moved an inch with RE070's or AD08's on.
Last year a neibour ended up on her roof going down my driveway, not fun really.

Noise levels are fine, no worse than RE070s and nothing I've ever had reason to worry about. In fact I've never even considered it.
Wear rates seem fine. As mine is a daily driver it rarely gets driven in anger. I've done 3000 miles in the last 6 months and there's no real sign of wear and where there is is even and as expected.
The first thing you notice with AD08s is the VERY stiff sidewall which leads to a slightly un nerving feel over rough road surfaces where they tend to crash over the top as there is very little sidewall flex, when you get used to this and let them ride over the top then that soon gets forgotten about.
I find that you have to leave turn in a fraction of a second later than you would with any other tyre I've driven on the road. With a "Normal" tyre there's always that slight flex in the tyre as you turn in which dulls the feeling of movement. With the AD08 there's none of that at all you you have to remember that it will turn in EXACTLY when you move the wheel. No drama no fuss just instant movement.
Wet weather behaviour is very predictable even when pushing on. No real drama even with a wide open diff, they will let go if you're really trying but they are easy to catch and better than most.
Terrible in the snow and ice virtually no grip at all. I drove at 5 mph to get out of my estate and my **** was puckering all the time as I simply couldn't find either front end or rear end grip. Eventually locked the diff which helped slightly but they really were pretty hopeless. That's the only time I wished I had other rubber.
Would I buy them again over any other tyre I've tried........In a heartbeat. Highly recommended

The amount of times people at work say "but you have a Subaru.... why don't you use that as it's AWD" makes me laugh. They have no concept of why that makes little to no difference in reality (when it gets bad).

I forgot how bad they are. Went out in the Scoob on Saturday (first time in months) and had one of those twitches when it tramlined quite horrendously. Then I remembered what tyres were on!

I am on 235/45/17 AD08 now, first time didn't like the steering feel after OE size 225/45/17 AD08 in the city use. The steering became much harder, and this hardness was not I was waiting for. These ADVANs in reality are wider than any other tyre, 225 AD08s are the same width as 235 Michelins or Bridgestones. When putting 235 AD08 on 8,5JJ OE BBS rims I see than I needed to go wider wheels, 9JJ at least, because the sidewalls are not vertical straight now, and the sidewalls are higher than in OE size, this is good for bad road surfaces but same time high sidewall flexes more, giving less steering sharpness feel. I'd better go 235/40/17 or stick OE 225/45/17 size for the city. AD08 is near perfect perfomance tyre for me anyway.
