As in, would he be able to sell some of the parts not involved in the failure, i.e cylinder head etc.

Eh? In your earlier post you say that "the engine is built up from a short motor and the various other parts supplied to the builders...".

As such, selling the cylinder heads would probably be a bit problematic when the assumption in your earlier comment seems to be that they're going to be built onto the new short engine.

For the avoidance of doubt, a short engine comprises just block, crank/pistons/rods and bearings. Given this, the inference is that pretty much everything else from your brother's old engine will be re-used.

Under these circumstances you should ensure that a new oil cooler modine, and ideally oil pump, willl be fitted.

The new engine will be built from a new short motor and the various other components required, i.e cams, oil pump, sump, head gasget, cylinder head, all supplied new from subaru to the engine builders. Therefore a lot of what my bro already has will NOT be being used. Cylinder head, cams etc. The job you mention above is what he would get if he went for a new short motor not a new unit.

I understand the desire to have a new engine with a 3 year, 30,000 mile warranty.

BUT, Just check if that warranty applies if the engine is fitted outside of a Subaru dealership. Parts supplied to people such as us have no warranty back up from Subaru. It took me 9 months to get a credit for a dodgy short motor that failed as soon as the key was turned first time.

That would have been built by Linwoods.

Even then, I only got back what I paid :- no compensation for our labour, nothing for the garage labour costs to remove and re-install, nothing for transportation. NOTHING. ZIP, NADA, ZILCH,as in NOWT.

If it looks to good to be true..................................
