Eh? It's almost exactly £3K, to within just a few pounds.
UK Tax Calculator

Did that take off national insurance ???
Yep. Don't forget the first £6.5K is tax-free, and the next £30K or so is only taxed at 20%.

Not sure if it's the same elsewhere, but up here in Lincs I could easily run everything J4cko has on a £50k wage. Hell me and the Mrs are gonna have a little 'un next Feb/March time and I'll only be on approx £13k and her £11k then.

You manage at the end of the day and my philosophy is to use the hard times as motivation to earn more and have ££ for the nice things. I learn't that when loosing my old job 2 years ago and going from £22k in a warehouse to £49.00 a week dole
Can't say fairer than that COB. Thats the philosophy in the days of austerity in earlier times, people learned to live within their wages and did not get into large amounts of debt. They saved for anything that they needed, which meant they were not financially crippled and still were happy enough even if they did not have all the luxuries we are used to nowadays.

Here you go

£8,000.00 per month or £96,000.00 per annum for staying at home, in a 2.1m house at the taxpayers expence and recently upgraded to this area because they did not lik living in a poorer part of London not too sure you will find a lot happier anywhere...

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...poor-area.html

Please explain how they could/would be happier working for thier money given their current income and previous job experience of a £6.50 per hour bus conductor and cleaner???

I'm pretty sure I'd not do much different if our household income doubled.

We'd only spend more doing what we already do.

I'd think about PX'ing the signum for a BMW 520, I'd still have a car. I'd get a carbon race bike with Dura ace components, I'd still have a bike. I'd spend more on a ski holiday...............I'd spend more on a mortgage.

None of these things would really make me happier. Quite happy with my lot and I realise there are planty worse off.

This doesn't work with me in all honesty.

Yes, 30 years ago I was penniless with debts around my neck - and I do spend more now than then ..... but when you spend what you need to spend having more doesn't make me spend more.

But, as Leslie rightly says .. the more I have the more I seem to accumulate ..

I agree to some extent, but if ones income doubled it wouldn't be about buying a bigger car/bike/watch etc it would be about accumulating a bigger financial 'cushion' which means knowing that you could cope with any sort of disaster without stress. Also perhaps retiring earlier.

Would it make me happier if my income doubled? I wouldn't be happier as such, but a lot more relaxed knowing that my retirement would be a very financially care free one, and my family well looked after shsould I pop my clogs

Best way to look at it I'd say.

"Whoever says money doesn't buy happiness doesn't know where to shop!" - Unknown.

I do sometimes wonder how some people live on the kind of wages one would get by, for example, working in retail etc.... especially when they have a family. I don't think that a decent wage is a pre-requsite for happiness, but it certainly helps! .....

Now, if only I could get one!
