Simon's Rebuild Thread.
That is a mahoosive looking turbocharger sitting atop the engine is it a VF48?
It is the premier choice of single scroll VF turbochargers, I bet the owner really knew what he was doing when he chose that one...
The engine is looking better than new, let me know who sold you that parallel fuel rails and I will sort him out for you.
How are you going to manage Simon having to drive it off boost until the running in is complete and Bob remaps it?

Yes a VF48
I think the previous owner of the VF48 is a CARnoissuer, and had foresight to see that the 48 was well and truly needed
Dylan has done a cracking job - I don't recognise it
show and shines from now on
Bonnet open job
As for the rails
please wack the seller with a small, but dense brick
, The off boost period is going to be hard - but will need to run it in well
any tips on running in will be appreciated Yes a VF48

I think I should be able to find the seller of the fuel rails but I am not so sure that hitting him with a brick would do much good though.

As for running in tips just keep it off boost and drive it like Morgan Freeman in Driving Miss Daisy, I would take it out for some long drives and get the miles on it ASAP and then get Bob to sort the map out. Did Bob mention a running in map? He should be able to set up a map where you get restricted power and revs.

If Taylor has a look at the thread he should be able to offer some good tips on running in engines.
Cheers Ty
Maybe hit him with a dried out, rough sponge

No Bob didn't mention that - just tell him, when I know the final spec and to let him know when I'm back on the road
I intend to be pretty cautious with the car

use running in oil like millers and change oil after around 20 mins of first start up then use running in oil for 200 miles then drop oil and put fresh running oil back in then change oil around 700 miles and put a cheap 10w 40 semi oil in till around 1200 miles then change to a good oil like motul 300v
and as said drive off boost for a while but can give it a little at the end of running in

Fill the tank right up and take a back road drive to North Wales then fuel up grab some food and run back down through Hereford back to home
Not quite sure if that was the tip you was after

Looking spot on it has to be said well done that man

My running in was to keep it below 4000RPM for the first 1000 miles a little more after that up to 1400 miles.
I already had my boost set to 0.8 BAR so that was fine
You DON'T take it too easy though, the engine needs to get some heat into it to bed things in.
If you take it easy you're just wasting your time

Build the boost up as you're running it in too, pity you can't limit your revs to say 4-5k! I managed 1000 miles in a week when running mine in!! Alan J drove it for the first 75 miles, changed the oil, then I changed the oil after 500 miles of gentle mixed driving. Then after the 1000 miles I took it back to have the oil changed again and the first remap
Good luck buddy, Dylan is doing a grand job

Thanks for the helpfull hints/tips Guy's
It is worrying as I don't want to undo any of Dylan's hard graft on this engine
, He is doing a fantastic job there - all between his own work too
Just come back from his, and the engine is nearly ready to put back in - the headers are on and the turbo soon to follow
Looking super
Well done Dylan

Just a question what are those flaps on the lower inlet manifold??

They look like throttle flaps, are they standard or uprated items?? What they do??
Also looking really really good!!!

Not 100% but I think they only open when your on full throttle. May be emissions or the vvc heads.
Right today I have fitted the ported headers, uprated up-pipe, turbo and timing belt. Torqued everything up and fitted wiring loom. Engine will be sliding it's way back in tomorrow. Hope the engine i'm building for myself looks as good as yours Simon. Post up the photos after I get home from shopping.

You did well since I left then Dylan
I'm sure the other engine your starting will be better Mate - after all you are responsible for the way mine looks now - so you should be onward and upward from now on
Look forward to the pic's

Where you located Dylan?? Just wondering cos your work seems really good and may pop up for you to laugh at mine if I can get her on the road lol, just have a quick look and give some advise.
Im a bit gutted today to be honest. I was hoping to have the engine in.
Turned out i didn't make it!!
It's suprising how long it takes to do all the small things??
Re-fitted the loom, made some brackets for the fuel rail.
And the worst job of the day was re-fitting the cambelt covers
, Nice new Cosworth belt hiden away??
Plus power steering, alternator and A/C pump. Not untill i painted the brackets.

Hey Dylan - that engine is looking sooo good
Shame the belt gets hidden away, but it's looking so good as it is
The bits you need to get, are they different from what was on it before ?
Thanks yet again, for all your hard work

No, the bracket is the one we never refitted when we did your injectors and now i cant find it in my garage. I can use it to mount the fuel rails and it'll look OE. Done one side just need to do the other.
And your intake pipe had a split in it under the gubilee clip didnt notice it till i cleaned it and tried fitting it.

Hope you didn't give it to me Mate - I may have lost it then
The intake is the red pipe is it ?I have a silicone Y pipe from prodrive if that will do - I guess you will have to replace the hard y pipe then

Wrong pipe Si its the one that goes under the inlet manifold and conects to the air filter.
