I'm not the only one, no i don't work for them as you know and I'm not arguing, it's just from common sense/personal experience. Also I'm not disputing that there were issues, but a large majority of those were years ago in the past, so I'm sick of seeing the same ole crap from bitter 2008-2010 hatch/saloon owners posting the same old US court links from circa 2008-2010 its a joke, **** happens, get over it.

And how come you are always slating them at any opportunity? The negativity in you is awesome, well done.

The US Class Action Claims are from April 2018, on current MY Cars.

Just pointing out your error.

If SUBARU felt so passionate about the issue I am sure they could counter claim?

lol I wondered when the 1st bitter ex owner would pop up again

Oh yea sorry I didn't read the 3rd link, torquenews, ah yes a trust worthy site that all US claims notably (probably due to incorrect fuel ron in some areas) Well not in all cases, but it wont help will it.

Rightly or wrongly I guess Subaru haven't counter claimed because they don't need to, due to 9yrs straight of decent sales and record sales for all vehicles in 2017. And/or they know these cases wont go anywhere like the last two

Hardly bitter or ex-owner. Still trucking on here but I saw the light and bought JDM.

Well my 2012 STI saloon engine threw in the towel at 122k just after Christmas

HG failure in my case though. Just had it rebuilt with ARP head studs, RCM head gaskets and had some Wiseco forged pistons thrown in while it was apart at Richard Henry. Just running it in again and looking forward to mapping it. Mine was completely standard and I was actually going to sell it when I got it back but absence really does make the heart grow fonder!

so i decided to have mine rebuilt before it failed, engines now been stripped and found to be showing initial signs on the head gasket itself failing. It hadn't failed yet but wasn't going to be long. it's currently on 67k but doubt it would have reached 70k before failure, so add that to the failed list.

Angry 2014 - 2018 crank failure

Just wondering how many of you have had cranks fail on the newer 2014 - 2018 saloon cars, unmodified cars, because mine just gave after a quick blast of about 3 miles.
Yep fully serviced and running the correct fuel too.
This is the only Sti to let me down and I have had a few.

was the crank failure the cause or the symptom?

As yet the engine is not in bits, I expect to find out next week exact cause but I can tell you the oil pump and water pump are both still working and no lights came on the dash, no smoke or steam out the exhaust.
I reckon it's a big end failure, sounds louder on the drivers side under the bonnet if that helps your judgement, it's rattling like you would not believe with a pronounced metallic clonk at just under 3000 revs when the throttle is backed off.

did you use subaru's schedule for oil changes? what is it 10k/12months?

Whats subaru said? or is the warrenty over?

P.S. not saying you've done anything wrong, just curious.

should really stick to the 12 months as well even if not doing the milage, although i doubt 2 months would matter in reality. If warranty is gone may as well do a proper job and get it closed decked and forged then no worries in the future.

unless your hammering it then 6 months is a bit ott, but i do agree 10k miles is way too long, i stick to 5k, although for me thats not far off 1 year anyway.

Yeah if I was at home I'd get it done more often but in reality I use the car maximum 5 months per year as the rest of the time I'm out the country, and in that 5 months I use my other car as a run about 75% of the time, better fuel consumption, don't care about door dings.
Why get my unreliable Sti all marked, bad enough I have a self detonating engine but dents too lol.
Looks like it's going to be my last Subaru which is unfortunate as I love them but probably looking at 6000 plus here for a short motor and old one out new one in, not something I will take a chance on happening again.
Subaru UK's take on it is not good so far, however I will not slag them off as they may come good once the cause is determined, I hope.

rebuild it right and it wont fail, 2.5 is a great engine once its built correctly.

As far as subaru uk, its pretty much not worth wasting your time even talking to them.

Short startups and short trips are the biggest killer of engines as condensate builds up in the block and corrodes steel and alloy bearing surfaces so if the care doesn’t get used for 5 months and was put away in the cold after a short engine run it may have be rusting away inside.
Second these engines will turn off the oil pressure light when there is no oil in the sump so if the oil light comes on the engine is scrap. So if oil level isn’t checked regularly it is easy to kill an engine.

I’ve had scoobys for probably 20 years now lots of different types models etc , yes engine may fail so go forged but in credit to subaru very little else for me has gone wrong other than engine , the most significant part was a drivers door window motor which i got repaired but it had done 160k miles , so over all as a car pretty reliable , just a big shame about the 2.5 failures , not defending subaru but they do a good job of getting a lot of power out of a small lump , shame they don’t put their hands up to the issues and sort them out , maybe that’s why they don’t seen to want to sell fast subaru’s here any more ??

Sadly, the time has come to add myself to this dreadful list. My lovingly cared for and massively over-serviced 2004 Forester STI has just suffered head gasket failure. These models are supposed to be less prone to the issues, but no matter how carefully I have treated it in the 2.5 years I've owned it the 2.5 engine has still let go. Suspect head lift under boost less than 1.3 bar caused this. Still on original 71k engine.

Looking to go fully forged now. Bugger!

Oh dear sorry to hear , join the club , i know you know your stuff , don’t be drawn into not re building the bottom end , as both mine were on the way out but both seemed ok , the boost on mine was the same as yours and is the same after the re build , the other bit is arp or like head bolts

Thanks mate. Don't worry. If I keep the car it will be going fully forged. Already been discussing this with Paul Finch today. lol.

But I've always wanted a C63 so I'm tempted to cut my losses, jump ship and go from there. Few irons in the fire at the moment, but can see me rebuilding it properly before I sell it.
