Well, it was a mystery. Everything was saying there was a problem with no 4 cylinder. They compression tested it, the compressions all came up even, but they thought they were a bit low, so they pulled a brand new unregistered WRX STi out of the showroom and ran a compression test on it, and it came up even lower than mine!
They did a lot of testing on it, swopped coil packs around, and although the problem manifested itself when it came in, it went away after they started pulling it apart.
Subaru technical got involved, and they also did a leakdown test, and that came back ok too.
In the end they were stumped, and said we can't get to the bottom of what it is, it is running fine now, take it away and drive it, and if it starts doing it again, bring it back and we will try and stick a real time data logger on it to see if that shows anything.
So I took it away, and it was running like stink, better than it had ever done.
However............it has now started hesitating again. Nowhere near as bad as before, but nevertheless it is back.
At the moment I can't be arsed to be without the car again, so am driving it as is.

I was told issue was with TumblerValve. But only seemed an issue on sports sharp and not in sports mode!!!!

Mine hesitated from 8months after fitting 340R pack. till 30months old. When IM finally got it repaired. I was told hesitation was only in sports sharp and was tumbler valve issue. Might be worth proving that on rolling road.
Unfortunately the engine died at 33months.
IIRC
IMHO
