has there been many 2011+ saloon failures yet? I know the pistons etc are the exact same item, I just haven't heard of many of the saloons going yet.

thanks

I've been here longer than you, I'm not going anywhere, I just don't visit much these days .

Well, it was a mystery. Everything was saying there was a problem with no 4 cylinder. They compression tested it, the compressions all came up even, but they thought they were a bit low, so they pulled a brand new unregistered WRX STi out of the showroom and ran a compression test on it, and it came up even lower than mine!

They did a lot of testing on it, swopped coil packs around, and although the problem manifested itself when it came in, it went away after they started pulling it apart.

Subaru technical got involved, and they also did a leakdown test, and that came back ok too.

In the end they were stumped, and said we can't get to the bottom of what it is, it is running fine now, take it away and drive it, and if it starts doing it again, bring it back and we will try and stick a real time data logger on it to see if that shows anything.

So I took it away, and it was running like stink, better than it had ever done.

However............it has now started hesitating again. Nowhere near as bad as before, but nevertheless it is back.

At the moment I can't be arsed to be without the car again, so am driving it as is.

Thats almost identical to the situation I have with my MY11 hatch. It suffers random intermittent hesitation around 4K. The dealer took it in and did compression but not leak down checks, between themselves and Subaru technical couldn't identify a problem. They said they thought it was an unknown fault and to go back when it happened again. That said at the same time they reset the ECU and things were improved for 6 months then the hesitancy came back once every blue moon, but no errors captured in the ECU. I then had the Subaru 320 ECU upgrade done after 18 months of ownership and whilst the hesitancy does still happen it is very random and possibly only happens once every 6 months... if that. Its a feature sir

So sounds like probably an issue with the standard/Subaru map/software, again :/

I'm so glad I mapped mine from day 1.

I had the same hesitation on my MY11 340r.

I was told issue was with TumblerValve. But only seemed an issue on sports sharp and not in sports mode!!!!

They had same issue with mine and my maters 340R. Dealers were stumped Did all the normal plugs pressure test etc. They took his to RCM with two ProR cars. And couldn't get any to run right swapped bits etc. . My mates car went back as a lemon. IIRC

Mine hesitated from 8months after fitting 340R pack. till 30months old. When IM finally got it repaired. I was told hesitation was only in sports sharp and was tumbler valve issue. Might be worth proving that on rolling road.

Unfortunately the engine died at 33months.

IIRC

IMHO
