Well no surprise they are still denying any responsibility and refusing any help whatsoever.

They are still going with their initial claim that I ran it without oil but now saying “While we have not had the finalised report yet the initial indications from the expert confirm that the failure of the engine upon your subaru is purely as a result of lack of oil”.

They did an independent report on 8th November but that has not actually turned up yet.

here are some facts:

My car has had close to 8ltr of oil go through it in just 3491 miles.

* Bought car, oil was full.
* 2900 miles later had to top up oil
* approx. 200 miles later noticed smoke from engine, oil leak from disconnected breather pipe. Oil empty so topped up again.
* approx. 300 miles later blue smoke from exhaust, engine stripped and pistons 2 and 4 ringland failure, crankshaft destroyed and oil pick up pipe plus some other bits missing (turbo stay bracket for example).

I should also note that I have my shell Vpower fuel statement and have receipts to show oil was bought twice and topped up during this period.

David from API Impreza is rebuilding my car as I got fed up of waiting, been 3+ months now.

Need to send a reply to this letter so looking for some other thoughts on this from people who understand the mechanics of my problem

thanks
James

STi hatch, with PPP fitted for its third birthday. Big end has gone apparently. Down to the dealer tomoz to discuss and look at its innards. Out of warranty etc so will be digging into the pockets to resolve. I am happy with performance as is, but planning to keep it another five years, so... Any specific requests I should make to the garage to maximise future life?
SIMPLE.

Don't let the dealer do it, they are incapable of doing the job properly and with the correct components that will overcome the 'design fault' They almost certainly will just order a new short motor from IM and you'll still have the fault.

Call me to talk through your options and l'll come up with a figure that will put it right permanently and you will then get your 5 years worth of safe motoring.

suppose the question is, If you were out on the Motorway and the Leak was happening, it may indeed run out, But how can they say you did it in Anger or were lazy.

the car was sold with an issue thus caused this.

I bet merc have had many Women drivers return the car with shagged engines, because Women generally only know how to open the door let alone fill it with oil.

do merc actually say this to all people who have had there engine dump the oil, blaming them for running it without Oil.

Doesnt the ECU record oil warning lights ? and longevity of how long its been on for, if so then this may be what there looking at.....

Do Merc actually suffer from such a problem in the first please?

Anyway, I'd say all dealers, regardless of marque, try to blame the customer

I'm still waiting for the report but these cars are prone to failures, it had a new engine 8000 miles before, I have a receipt for oil 500 miles before problems started so car has definitely had lots of oil, besides i'm not dumb and know how to look after my cars and motorbike.

I've been driving since 2006 and owned 5 cars total. Never had any issues apart from with the ***** I bought them from. 3/5 cars I've bought have had problems, first one the suspension was wrecked, second missing parts from engine and pretty bad state of suspension.

My other two cars were both golf GTI's which I owned 3 years without issues. Think i'll get another VW!

Young man, you're a mere whipper snapper
I've been driving Impreza's since 1998, and I'm well aware the 2.5's have issues.
Thankfully I got rid of mine (a 330S), alas it shat itself on the new owner.

im finding it hard Mick, i thought id decided last night on the Golf, but ive just been down to Audi and sat in the new S3 with quilted sports seats and its lovely.

So after haggling bending manager over giving him a length, ive got the spec

S3 5 door in Amalfi White stronic
Sat Nav
Comfort pack ( basics are cruise lights mirror parking wipers )
Bang &Olufson speakers
Hold assist
Sports leather seats

i will order after the 25th and will test drive before. Golf still may take the flag, but after today and seeing how big the boot is practicality of the 5 door i think the Audi may be the one.

Only issue i have is Audi service is 300+ i dont think gold would be that expensive

i sat in both the 3 and 5 door and the 5 door has the deffo edge in space and boot, felt a bit cramped on the 3 door

That looks very nice. Not really considered the S3 but I am keen on the "R".

Sorry for the hijack guys, back to the sad subject of the Hatch engines.

and the rest... had 2 x A2's brilliant little cars but the servicing costs and dealer attitude put me off ever buying Audi again. Looked at an S3 when buying my STi salesman lost that deal in the blink of an eye!

Hey guys, move on with the VW / Audi appreciation society This is a Subaru moaners forum

There must be several other forums for disaffected Hatch owners who are moving on.

yes

2.5 built right is a crackign engine, but there a dog from the factory im afraid.

will be cheaper to sort before it lets go cos it will be just a refresh, also an excuse to forge and sort out the other issues they have and crank her up hehe

Fix it before it goes - it'll be a bit cheaper.

Sorry mate I can't answer that unless any car owner wants me to. We fell foul of a guy a few years back where we answered a similar question and nearly got our *** sued off, because the questioner had some financial interest in the guy or the car and we dropped the car owner in deep poo.

We have many cars here just now including 2 P1's, 3 Hatches, numerous Hawks and 3 diesel Legacy's. Plus a scattering of GC8's.

Apologies for no proper answer - ask "Steven" directly he might tell you.

I started reading through this thread last night and there's quite a lot to get through but this issue with the 2.5, I'm assuming it doesn't stop at 2010. Would I be right in saying that my MY11 STi is equally at risk?

Also, and I think I know the answer as I've had the unfortunate experience of trying to deal with IM customer service, has anyone had any joy with them after the engine went pop with a car that's out of warranty?
