iPhone vs Android phones

Microsoft will stuff it up or people will remember how much they dislike them, Google are an advertising company, that had some spare time. Apple's execution and timing was perfect. I can't see them being removed from the top spot for a long time. And who's Nokia?

Jacko, don't hate the player, hate the game. Save yourself some time and just let people enjoy quality products. For every post that says Apple's great three of your Antifanboy gang pop up, it's tedious.

Did a little speed test yesterday with my HTC Desire and one of my daughters friends brand new iphone.
1st to get youtube up and playing the top spot most viewed video.
and
1st to get google maps up and pin point our location.
Yes, the Desire rocked on both counts. Also, for some reason the iphone was about 1/2 a mile out with the location.
So there you go ultra scientific proof.

In regards to the apps, if you have a massive app then normally only the core program is stored on the internal space and the cache and bulky stuff stored on the memory card. I have stacks of apps on my desire and still have plenty of space left, its also super fast at browsing as stated above and is an all round great phone, I am glad that HTC have now become the "Game changers"

I would probably say that it was more that Palm ruined themselves as they left it too long to release the Pre and then put more out there than would possibly be shifted, post release of other similar phones (including iPhone)
I like the way it works and, as said, not many others have them, whereas alot of my friends have iPhones HTC's or Blackberry's and pretty much nowt else.

Scooby Soon, how old is your Desire? Now have a search around for the release date of the iPhone 3G, which is in some ways superior to your HTC offering. You'll find the 3GS was released over a year after the 3G, your Desire is probably a week old and has been superseded, you can't see that? I'd be a tad annoyed. Do you think HTC will have your phone in mind in six months time? I doubt there's more than one person part time on the Desire team right now.
I like your thinking Torquemada, it's good to be different, bloody shame about Palm, they were king of the hill once. There's value in the operating system that's for sure, but the chance of anyone developing for it are minimal. But you can go too far with different, Snazy bought some funny phone a while back from some chinese maker that no one's heard of and probably never will again, that's money down the drain.

Jack, I love Apple stuff, I just want to see appropriate and fairly judged competition that raises the game !

Me too J4CKO, but so far everyone's just been catching up in everything but numbers, bloody shame as Apple are sure to raise the bar out of reach again with the next iPhone. Where's the innovation from other vendors? It's all duplication and in HTC's case they even copy themselves and add a few numbers.

If the Desire actually works well as a phone and has a real SMS inerface that can do really really complex stuff like delivery receipts as well as all that app nonsense then I for one don't care whether they innovate or not.
Let Apple trail balze away and someone like HTC can make it work properly

I agree, there is no such thing as the perfect phone, nor one phone for all.
Torque, how is the Pre? Looks a bit fiddly, but the 9800 or 9700a looks to follow in its boots.

Use one of the comparison sites mate, plenty of indirect offers out there.

1200 mins calls
Unlimited Texts
Unlimited Web (3gb) **
24 months
£35
**that was the main issue for me. I was reading on another forum where a guy has used 40% of his 500mb Vodafone allowance in just 3 days and he reckons not mega usage.

IIRC on the hero you can do something called "root" which i assume is like the jailbrake iphone stuff?
Anyway, if i remember rightly it allows you to store apps on the card, i would assume you can do this on the other models, i cant remember the reason for it not being enabled by default but you could probably google it and find out.

I just googled that root 'jailbreak' thing. so maybe you can store apps on SD card, but it's a real faff.

I just found out that you can't load/run apps on android from anywhere other than the internal drive... so on the Desire, that's 576mb :|
I have one app on my iphone over 200mb and over 2gb of apps on the phone - most of which i use at least once a week.
I was seriously thinking of defecting to an HTC Desire, but this is a brick wall for me.
How do you android people get past this? Will there be an update to allow card based app storage?

Go look at ... http://androidforums.com/support/121...s-sd-card.html ... a bit old but should point you in the right direction ... maybe .....

Apple 1%
HTC 2%
Nokia 41%
I was quite surprised by all three figures to be honest. If they're accurate of course.

Apparently... Nokia phones account for 1 in 3 of every phone sold in the world. Which given their range sounds pretty reasonable.

Before you reply to this comment, don't class me as an anti fan boy or ignore what i say and don't answer my questions like you normally do. I'm looking for an honest fully explained answer this time.

Firstly, the update for the Hero has been delayed. Not enough developers no doubt.
OS4 for the 3G will be awesome. No third party multitasking but as a bazillion iPhone users will tell you it's not needed.
All HTC phones will be superseded by the Incredible and the ten variants that different carriers will release. It's due out at the end of the month.
Hope that answers your questions.

The incredible is available for pre order on verizon, an american network, as of monday. As far as i can see there are no official releases in the UK as of yet. It may have slight improvements over the desire but that gives people the chance to buy a newer phone rather than customers who now still buy an iPhone 3GS, over a year after it was released.
Delays happen for a number of reasons. It's probably not down to lack of developers, it could just be technical difficulties. The iPad's UK release date has been delayed due to errors with the wifi i believe. $hit happens.
JackClark, Have you heard of the iPad being released on any other UK network apart from Orange?

The iPad's release has been delayed due to it's unprecedented success in the US, in it's first week it was used more on the web than Android and Blackberry!! Nothing to do with any issues at all and if you ask someone who has one the WiFi is fine.
I seriously doubt the iPad will be Orange only, at least I hope not. I'm hoping that Apple once again change the market and offer a European data plan of sorts, only Apple could facilitate this change, no one else is big enough.
The 3GS is still the phone that others try to compare to, take a look at the reviews, are the new HTC phones compared to the old ones? No, they're compared to the 3GS, a year old phone that still kicks butt.
