Crikey. Lucky escape J4CKO.

I think that IFA who tried to sell you this "investment" should be reported to the FSA, she may have been duped herself, but she should be investigated too IMHO.

I was very sceptical at the time, sometimes I am too sceptical, perhaps not in this case.

Luckily I put the same money that was never really ever destined for this in shares and doubled it.

Crazy that we have discussed this on and off for 3 years and only when the money runs out does the FSA get involved.

Got to love the Daily Mail for putting IFAs in the firing line from the off. Its actually the providers the FSA has asked to provide details. Although any IFA recommending Harlequin to anyone who couldn't afford to lose the money should be banned for life IMO.

FSA gets involved at last :-

This is the firm that I mentioned all that time ago - funnily enough they've just closed. :-

The above firm advertised on the radio. Had signs up around the local golf course and were really quite high profile.

Got to love the FSA for its completely re-active nature to pretty much everything.

The "Unregulated" bit was always going to be a cop out until it could no longer be ignored. Its unregulated so you can charge 10% or more commission, its unregulated so you don't have to carry out extensive due diligence, its unregulated so quite frankly don't bother coming to us. Its a joke.

What will really boil my pi55 is if the FSCS pays out and then makes IFAs pay in higher contributions. Or sues IFAs like they have over Keydata.

Thats one aspect but IMO its the easy option to blame the IFA. The SIPP providers should never have allowed it as an investment. The SIPP providers did their DD but what for? If it went wrong they could wash their hands of it.

I all but physically chucked out a rep from one of the SIPP providers who wanted to talk to us about Harlequin and using their SIPP.

Or Pacific Securities or the latest, Share Deal. I personally had bugger all to do with any of them but the FSA have asked me to send them 3 or 4 signed cheques and then they can fill in the appropriate amount when somebody else f4cks up.
