2dr!! There are heaps of rough ones around!

Wee_trav - strip it completly if it isnt going to be used for anything other than track.

My white 2dr still has heaps to be removed... weight it the enemy!

Hey Adam!!

Its gonna be track tbh so all the sound deadening is being chiseled out at the mo, pain the **** though!!! Nice thread you've got there btw ma boy!!

On to an update!!

Moved the car to the back of the house, noticed that it always had a bit of an idle problem so started to investigate. Good news and bad news........Bad, I found that the turbo inlet pipe had been butchered!!

So ordered a silcone 4 ply one, blocked of the breather inlets and dump valve return with turned alloy plugs!! Sorted!! Have a breather system on order that take feeds from the two heads and crank case, keeping all that nasty octane reducing oil vapour outta the inlet system!!!

Anyway on to the good news.....had a wee look in the inlet ports to find them ported with brand new valves and bronze guides blended into the port Magic!!

AND!!!!!!!! also saw this!! Lightened flywheel and what looks like a fancy clutch in there.... RESULT!!!!

Also verified it has a VF35 turbo!!

So this is how its looking so far!!

A bit of mess really but I'm just getting rid of all the sound deadening and wiring not required!

Also wrapped the headers and down pipe!!

And!! Took out the water spray tank and diverted the electrical wire to the rear washer motor on the main washer tank. Then re-plumbed the water spray nozzles feeds to this pump. Basically wanted rid of this tank to aid induction. I done something similar on my old R32 GT-R track car with the rear wash wipe switch and put spray nozzles on the front bumper as a make shift water spray set up. Anyway, we'll see how it works on the scooby??

Thats it for now people! What this space!!

Car is now MOT'd, will tax it this weekend and get it mapped next week.

Bought a set of Rota G force 17x8 Et48s for the R888 tyres, coilovers are away getting re-valved, OMP rollcage has now been purchased, Corbeau seat is now ready for fitment along with Sabelt harnesses, Whiteline spherical drop links and bump steer kit will be fitted next week also

Gear linkage is playing up though.................

Default BIG!!! update

OK!!!...........So its been a while!

During my 6 week summer holiday I've been really busy finishing the car. So here we go....

Firstly on the 5th July I got the car mapped by Andy F. Top guy and top map can I just say. The only problem was that header to up pipe gasket blew so was making a hell of a racket and effecting spool up. Anyway, an hour later a good map was in the ECU, job done!

The morning before

I had booked a Livi autoparts track day up at Knockhill on the 15th. So the pressure was on as I had 10 days to;

-fit my rebuilt Ohlins coilovers and do the tracking
-fit the rollcage
-fit Corbeau race seat
-fit Sabelt harnesses
-fit tow straps
-fit new gasket to up pipe

..........easy!! Or so I thought.....

I had the coilovers built and dyno'd by B.A.D . They made a fantastic job of them, I'd highly recommend these guys as they know their sh*t!! Anyway I fitted these no problem.

Next was the Roll cage. Pain on the a**s due to the fact that the fuel and brake lines that run inside the car had to be moved. Talk about cause and effect!! It had to done so i ripped out the fuel lines first and re located these underneath the car with some Goodridge braided supply /return lines and breather line. Brake lines were turned into one line straight after the master cylinder then relocated to run along the transmission tunnel to the back where it T'd of to the 2 rear lines. At this point I saw the opertunity to fit an AP racing Byass valve, so done so as I was running DS3000s on the rear anyway. See below....

Fitting the 10 point rollcage took 2 solid days. I welded in the 4 floor mount plates and rear inner arch fixing points. Then added 4 other mount points. These being 2 mount points just above the front windscreen and another 2 either side of bulkhead brace bar. This should give the shell even more rigidity and ultimately make it safer. Here are the brace bar mount points....

Race set was mounted onto an old seat rail mechanisim and Sabelt harnesses fitted.

Tow straps were fitted and bumper butchered cause at the time I also decided to fit a FMIC. I modified the bumper so it had a detachable front splitter and extra slits at the top to aid air cooling.

Tow straps are bolted directly onto the chassis legs

The 14th of July it was DONE!!!!!! Or so I thought. That night before the track day I was at my mates house just adding the finishing touches to the trackin/camber settings. I took it out a wee run sticking to the speed limit and as I was going around a roundabout I had a major fuel cut under full throttle and then BANG!!! The up pipe gasket blew, big style!! It was worse than before cause now it was blowing flames onto the back of the plastic timing case. Not good!! I was about to fit the standard one but was told that would bugger up my map and probably cause engine damage so....... the 15th didn't happen!!

I went up the next day anyway for a look and that, got completely soaked as it was teeming down all day! A few days later I took the up pipe and header of and just welded them together cause I was sick of going through gaskets. The 2 faces that mate with the gasket in the middle were all warped so a seam weld around the outside of the joint soon sorted that out

The next time to take it out was Monday night the 16th August which was a Track Scotland night. My mate Dunky spoke to Fiona who organised this night and got me a cancelled spot. Thanks to both of you!!! I also borrowed Dunky's trailer, cheers wee sacks!!

It went very well apart from blowing a fuel line of and causing the session to be stopped......Gutted!! I also got black flagged due to some **** in an R33 Skyline not looking at a marshall waving a blue flag at him (i.e pull over cause wee Travs about to bite yer ****!!) as I was taring up behind him, so I ended up having to over take him on the wrong side of the track. Anyway, a wee conversation with a race control marshall and I was back on the track.....Magic!! The bonnet scoop was also flapping around at the end of the main and back straight so that was taken of.

Next on the agenda, 2 044 Bosch pumps (1 internal and 1 external) and a swirl pot for the fuel system to stop the fuel surge that happens at half a tank and under at the hair pin.

Heres some more pics, enjoy!!!!

Nice work mate. Btw if you have a Walbro in tank don't bother replacing, that will be fine as a lift pump to your swirl pot.

Looks good there mate... how have you piped in your rear brakes then, cos down the side of mine at the min there are three pipes IIRC.

I need to move mine into the cabin this winter, so prob will do the same as what you have done.

?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ???????????????????????????????
Why make so much extra work.?
If it is not broke, why fix it unless you have nothing better to do. Playing with the brake pipes needlessly is bound to make it less reliable.????????/

Thanks for the comment, you certainly love your question mark button!!??

The brake lines weren't done needlessly. As I stated in my post the original brake lines and fuel lines for that matter got in the way of the roll cage centre floor mountings. Think it was just the design of the OMP cage, which is very different from others on the market that I've worked with. So it became a necessity to move/re-route these lines.

I'm a big believer in the the saying "If its not broke, don't fix it!!" However there is another saying "If your gonna do a job.........do it properly" well thats what I've done here. Moreover if you do the job properly, reliability will not be an issue.

why dont you get it mapped again now youve got the fmic fitted? it will have changed the air flow and temps since ur 1st map, you will be able to get a few more bhp.

Looks great tho mate.

I mentioned to AndyF after getting it mapped that I was gonna fit either an STI8 intercooler or a FMIC at a later date. He said it would be fine. Not ideal!!!!! But woudln't cause any problems. If I was gonna change the likes of the headers or exhaust then the car would definitely require a remap.

I understand what you saying bengreen85, yeah, to get it running perfect/more bhp I'll have to get it remapped, but I'm happy with how it goes just now.

Check it out

Default Update!!!!!

Ok........... wee up date. Decided to install the fuel swirl pot in the boot to get rid of that bloddy fuel surge at half a tank full!!!

So the Walbro is still in the tank as the lift pump and the Bosch 044 is plumbed into the bottom of the swirl pot. I was wanting to try it out so booked myself a little spot on the GMSC track night tonight for a couple of hours.................... It worked an absolute treat!!

Only problem I seem to have now is the inside rear tyre lifting at the hairpin which I know aint good for the diff. The noise it makes is..... and it is seriously effecting the traction and exit speed out of the corner. Anyone any ideas on how I could remedy this????

Also had a slight over heating problem after chasing down a porker GT3RS....heh heh heh. Will probably get a new thicker alloy radiator and cooler running thermostat. Temperature shot up to 106 degrees C at one point and coolant was pissing out all over the place once I came into the pits. Not good...... Watch this space......

Anyway, I've now got new van and trailer for lugging the type R around. Ten times better than the old set up

Will get some more pics of the GMRC track night up soon but I'll have to speak nicely to Dunky83.............

very nice spec, the only things i would think twice on are the heads, i would go for 2007 avcs, as you are having a syvecs the loom will not be a problem, the other thing is the gearbox, i would defo go for dccd, i found a hell of lot more drive coming out of corners with dccd, the non dccd boxes are mainly uk boxes so most are more power to the front ie not as good handleing.

hope this helps

ps nice project

Default ROAD TRIP!! Carluke to Hinckley

Up at 5:30 on the road for 6 with the snow teeming down, and surprise, surprise as soon as we hit England the snow stopped and the weather improved. First stop for a full English breakfast was at Killington Lake services. Then on to Hinckley!!

In the back of my trusty Astra TDi was a 6 speed gearbox, gear linkage, R160 diff, prop, cradle, HKS header + up pipe and BC coilovers.

Coilovers were bought by mate Bridges(GBSTI) there and then after he got permission from the misses)

Was thinking about AVCS heads but don't want to go down that route at this time.
