What I do know. Is the fact that it goes like F**k and drives and gives the feedback that I require.IE. Better than any Subaru I have driven/owned.(There have been a few).

Perhaps ,not as fast/timed maybes?

But certainly more enjoyable.

The V8 M3 with traction switched off "You have to it's on everytime you turn the key" is just about undriveable in my opinion even in the dry the car will try to kill you!! Go for an overtake and just half plant it like you would in yer subaru and you'll be steering into the slide and yer *** will start to tighten "Yours not the cars" So you'll switch the control back on like the BMW sales **** "that drives a 1.4 honda civic" told you to!! Drive a four wheel drive sports car like it was supposed to be driven and it'll make you smile every time you touch the throttle. Look for the perfect line into every corner hit the apex spot on and power out your car will go where the front wheels point. "If you still have anything legible on the outer side walls of yer tyres after a 1000miles" Yer a fanny!!

That is a MK1

I drive a 270BHP. MK2 Turbo. That has never had the japanese speed limiter 112mph. removed.

I can assure you that it is more involving/entertaining than any Subaru I have driven.

BTW. Pics of mine, are far more hilarious to you, than any rustbucket MR2 that you or any can produce.(Purely as a matter of opinion?)

MR2 turbos are ****!

I've owned two over the years (5 years apart) and quite frankly they are nothing short of ditch finders. OK in the dry but f*cking awful in the wet and utterly unpredictable. Infact I'd go so far to say that in the wet they are dangerous.

My first was a 240bhp Rev 3 my second was a 320bhp rev2.

Whilst you might like unpredictable oversteer that doesnt make for a quick car.

I'd take an impreza over an MR2 anyday.

If you feel the Hawkeye is not for you then sell it. As Duncan Graham has proven with the right mods they can me made to be blindingly quick.

Me personally, I'd take a JDM Classic over ANYTHING!!

It was no better to drive. But cost me a fortune over the 320BHP I had modded originally.

Then again the Torque split on the DCCD was different then. 36/64.

Can barely notice the difference on the Hawkeye.

Yeh I had those Rosetints on when I bought this car.

In a way i can see the OP's point, however i think the dismissive nature in which he posted ruffled a few feathers

I have a classic and a hawk and the difference is night and day in terms of involvement. However the Hawk is the better car for modern life methinks. Its just progression that has muted the driving experience.

I dont think we can blame Subaru for ruining their cars though - if they were still building them like the raw classic then they would simply not be selling. The market drives the improvements as well a safety legislation. My only criticism is that they have not improved on economy and performance has stagnated. By comparison the modern hot hatch has evolved considerably, providing good MPG, increased capability to handle more power and in some cases, great styling.

I do think Subaru do need to have a rethink - if they are still offering woefull mpg, high roadtax classification and bland styling then they need to offer an incredibly sharp, involving performance that leaves a huge gap from the modern hot hatch - like they did in the 90's. Owners have to spend thousands modding newage cars to recreate the drive they remember from the classic days.

I do love my hawkeye, but i have to admit that there are many a hot hatch that would keep up in modern day to day life.

I bought my only Impreza two days ago, it is a v reg with high miles but is mechanically sound and over the few miles I have driven it so far it has been great.
I remember driving up the side of Loch Lomond in my wifes old Uno years ago and I was able to drift it in every corner becasue it had no grip, awesome fun. She has had a Puma since and it was also superb fun to drive without going at ridiculous speeds.
I am loving the flat four burble and the almsot instant response but I suspect I would have to do really really stupid speeds to throw it around like the Uno.
I know which one I would rather have though.

My poor old bug-eye has extra everything added but I found Toyo R888's made the thing grip like nothing I've ever experienced.

I hated my second and final one.

I like to think I can drive a bit, I grew up racing go karts, and have had a stable of fast bikes and cars over the years. My first car was a 2.8i Capri and you just cant get much more tail happy than that. That car was awesome fun to drive. The MR2 on the otherhand was a death trap.

I remember the very moment that made me sell up.

It had been raining in the morning of this particular day and started drying up. By the time i went out in the MR2 it had practically all but dried. Anyway me and a mate who has a Norris Built Evo went oout for a drive. Whilst going towards the motorway we were taking it steady going round the round abouts as there were still a few damp patches. Anyway we started up the slip road to come on the M18 in Doncaster building up speed gradually. This slip road is as straight as they come so off we went. Then half way down the straight sliproad at circa 80mph the **** end of the car decided to step out for no reason whatsoever. I had to fight the thing for the rest of the way down the slip road with every correftion smaller than the last.

My mate me in the Evo just stepped on the brakes as he thought I was going to end up in the barrier.

I recovered, got on the motorway got off it at the next junction and drove it home. The next day I traded it in for my first Impreza. I've never looked back.

As said before, reasonable fun in the dry but proper deadly in the wet.
The NA MR2 on the other hand is a lovely car. The lack of turbo keeps it within its limits.

MR2 Turbos arn't crap they're just not very suited to UK roads and climate and you need to be a bloody good driver to drive them on the limit.

Given the right conditions, MR is the quickest layout. Just look at the production lap records on any major track.

Yeah most people know mid-engined rear wheel drive cars have the best balance. But in my opinion MR2s are crap!

In the March issue of Japanese Performance magazine one of the feature cars is an 05 STi Type UK which the had the PPP fitted and was not impressed,so he took it to a tuner and now has 422bhp.I think enough to beat most cars on road.I have not spent huge cash on my STi, but am currently at 315bhp.Was on my way home last summer on a 5 mile stretch of road with short straights and bends and the pursuing Ferrari 360 Modena could'nt get by.So he followed me home and his mate said could not afford a Ferrari and was going to get a Scoob and tune it.So stop moaning and sell yours or tune it good.Scoobies 4 ever.

the problem is the scoob totally changed from the classic to the newages, the problem is so many people moan that they are slower now but if they were made to be quicker than the lighter less crash friendly classics they'd be on here complaining about the fuel they drink.

its like the people who moan about the hatch, subaru were trying to get into the biggest selling market in the world, hatchbacks, they may have faultered in this country due to the sheepish nature of some but are hitting massive sales elsewhere, ie america where they realise the tuned potential of it.

so to tell it like it is mate sell it, buy an audi or bmw and go and moan on those forums about the prices they charge for works on the vehicles.

surely you have missed the point of the car?
i have only recently brought my sti ppp and the interior is shocking but i brought it for the thrill of the grip and the acceleration, if i wanted luxury i would have brought german!
pound for pound they are surely the fastest thing you can buy!
as for cheap!! stis are very expensive still.
