TBH I bought mine as "enough", but once people started getting 400+ bhp with relatively simple bolt-on mods, I got more interested.

That and a ride in a 600 bhp R33 GT-R......

Yes, i can imagine thats enough to temp you somewhat Dunx. Fancied a skyline myself prior to buying the WR1 but ended up staying loyal to subaru.

Woza - I've been running 422bhp / 400lbs torque @ 4,200 rpm (without additives) on my wr1 with standard internals for over 14k miles. I did not have to upgrade on my pink injectors as there was no probs getting the figures I got - Pat Herborne mapped mine.

Mods carried out:

sc46 turbo
fmic
full decat - 3"
custom induction kit
uprated inlet pipe
3 bar map sensor
solaris ecu

The sports cat works up to 360 but at the 400 level it was burning apart!

Lets say there's not many std 2 ltr blocks out there hitting 400lbs of torque at 4,200 rpm at the 400bhp power level without usage of e85/additives etc. SC46 is good but must admit I was fortunate enough to have had a very good overall set up (more important than just the turbo itself) as well as a master mapper and his solaris (syvecs) ecu! I think my block is a pretty tough one too!

No I appreciate you require supporting mods to assist this turbo make the power. I meant more specifically, like spool up/Lag compared to the VF35?

Syvecs is the route im taking also mate

VF35 will be quicker as smaller turbo but to be honest with you it wasn't too bad with the sc46. Here is my graph which will give you an idea of spool up, note the torque line.....

Red lines without 3 bar map sensor, blue lines with.

You're making the right choice on the Syvecs mate. The calibration switch is a must which gives you the switchable maps at a touch of a click!

No mate - it's the original sc46.

doesnt look bad at all mate, its not that much different to the VF. Yeah, switchable maps is a nice little feature. Im thinking one on pump fuel and maybe one on meth mix?

Aren't you tempted to swap it out for the Billet SC46

JD had the first new age customer Simtek on his car, and the fact he's been running it for that long at that level says a lot for Martyn's mapping work, I'd suggest!

Agreed, spool up's not too bad at all. Once it starts up its a matter of a few seconds and you're off! The calibration switch is brill - recall Pat putting in a map for non V Power fuels! Having 1.1, 1.3, 1.5 and 1.7 bar at your mercy is pretty handy!

If the WR1 and STI engines are the same, thought the key advantage over a WRX engine was the forged pistons, but all else the same?

I have clearly missed something, as pistons alone dont allow for that difference over a WRX engine?

Yes they do, but the AVCS heads on the STI help with spool, and the rest is history...
