That will teach him.....

It does not suprise me to be honest. The law is a bit of an ***. My Son is studying Criminology at Uni and spent a day in court this week.
He said it was really interesting, mentioned a couple of cases. A thief who said he stole as he was in debt, got a fine payable at £20 per month. Someone was up for racist behaviour, let off with a caution. The rest were motoring offences, each and every one had a stiff fine. Quick as you like.
It's all a bit mixed up. Must depend on what mood the Magistrate is in at the time. Oh and he said, the Magistrates were taking loads of advice off the Clerk
Sums everything that's wrong with this country. Next time somebody like this will run over a small child and kill them. How does the judge sleep at night?
This is why I think we should go over to the elected system of judges and police chiefs that they have in the states. I know its not perfect but it would give us the chance to vote out judges/top cops that we felt were too lenient.
David Cameron put forward this idea a year ago but now hasn't mentioned it again. Why??
