It's an OS upgrade first. Or maybe they will once again rock the technology world by announcing new hardware. My feeling is this update will give you the reason to update to the 3GS, it has a far better processor and graphics chip and as many on Scoobynet will tell you big numbers are best.

I'm hoping the new hardware doesn't arrive until August/September at least, my toy budget is diminishing.

Well since getting an 3GS a 3 weeks ago now, i've been reading through lots of forum's. A lot of people on these seem to think that the upgrades won't be massive improvements but will be good enough to tempt the 3G users to upgrade (being 2 years) without annoying the 3gs owners, Jack might know a bit more on this.

I think (even though it's not the 90's Jack) that it will have a forward facing camera.

Better main camera

Better battery

Also it's likely to be called the '3GSx' or something like that as to not confuse it with the 4G network which it won't be using until it's good enough. 4G probably next year when i'm due an upgrade.

Jack's big hope, the rear touch interface is something i'd love on a phone.

A question for Jack, is there a good forum you'd recommend? i've been using this one for a bit of help an info the last few weeks.

I don't use an iPhone forum, this forum provides me with enough Trolls and Antifanboys There are a few blogs I follow and a plenty of news sites with intelligent discussions.

I forgot the rear touch interface, did anyone else pick up on that or can I claim a first? I truly hope that come to be, maybe a front camera can be useful facing the desk?? Video calling fills me with horror, perhaps due to being forced to use it in my corporate career.

As much as I don't like the Blackberry, I can't see the iPhone offering anything advantageous. What can the new/next one do that would benefit me?
Nothing , but youll ge one of these for buying one

I love the iPhone, it's the best phone I've had IMO, I've had about 20 or so in the last 12 years!! Orange now charge 1p per delivery report and when you text a lot then it will add up!!

Lots of games and apps to keep me occupied when I get a spare 5mins and I only have to charge it overnight like I do the rest of my phone bar the LG KC910 Renoir whick was constantly on charge Last year alone I had 4 different models but the along came my 3GS and it's fantastic

The only thing I don't like is the fixed price tarriffs

I would say that OS4 will have any features from OS3.2 (he ipad OS) that would be of use on he iPhone and iPod touch plus a few additional things bthe big one being multitasking which peoe have wanted since the first version of the phone and OS
i would love to see global unlock as the ipad has this, or will when the the 3G version comes out. I feel that would be very warmly welcomed by anyone who wishes to be able to decide which network to use, rather than having it dictated to you.

I have a feeling we may also find out what hardware it will run on and that the next iPhone will be mentioned as it is due for a refresh

I'm expecting my Desire to arrive today - I'll let you know

I was going to wait a couple more months before upgrading as there are so many new smartphones on the horizon (inc 4G iPhone) but I concluded that if I waited for the next new 'improved' phone then I'd be waiting forever

The Desire has had excellent reviews and more importantly for me is Android based which was my main criteria - it's the future you know - Anyway, as for iPhone comparisons, well, the Desire certainly uses newer tech than the iPhone, has a 1GHZ Snapdragon processor, is ultra-fast, super-duper huge capacitive AMOLED screen (with pinch to zoom), the gorgeous Sense UI, a micro SDHC slot (up to 32GB) and lots of other nice things

My only criticism is the a slight lack of storage although TBH I mainly use my phone for calls, surfing the web, maps, social networking and some silly apps. The Desire is perfect for me. I guess it's all about your particular criteria and not whether one phone/OS is better than any other - but then that's far too logical and is definitely NOT the SN way...

Just do what I did, ignore everyone on here and sit and read review after review after review for about six months

But immediately that you have chosen your new phone stop reading reviews and never, ever look at new phones again. At least, not until your new contract is six months away from expiring

We have just taken delivery of the HTC Desire. It is fantastic.

The screen is great. Pictures and videos look very clear and the screen is very responsive.

It is much more responsive than the iPhone.

I try not to rise to your Trolling Snazy. It's low but at the same time quite amusing.

I played with a Desire yesterday, it's quite slick and HTC have done a good job of emulating the iPhone interface, but when you dig down below the good work HTC have done with Sense things get a bit uglier. There's no denying it's a nice piece of kit, but it's about to get it's butt kicked back into 1997.

Emulating the iPhone interface?

What will kick it into 1997?

i have to admit i am very curious about the Desire.

I'm not sure it makes sense having a macbook pro and mac desktop - I don't really want my data and connectivity to be the loser in the google/apple war

You're supposed to work in a phone shop, do I really need to teach you how to suck eggs?

Take a look at a HTC phone from around the launch of the iPhone, take a good deep look at the interface, note the changes compared to the current crop and then compare them to the iPhone. If you can't see that the iPhone has steered all phone operating systems in a positive direction then there's not a lot of hope for you as a salesman.

It's not a negative thing as such, and I'm sure when Apple release the next version of it's software those three years will have given them something to emulate, but HTC and others will be back to '97 a point in time where they benefited more by copying.

Bit uncalled for really. Try and express an opinion and get called names Whats all that about.

I have never once said the iPhone does not have the best touch screen out there. OK I have taken the pee a bit about the Apple-Love thing but thats not the same.
Do as you must Jack, I will leave you to it. Cant be bothered having conversations/discussions or trying to have a laugh with the high and mighty.

Since then Android has come out. HTC aren't copying iPhone or tryin to emulate it. Android make the operating system so if anyone has done the emulating it's them. But i really don't believe for a second that either company copied or is trying to emulate Apple. Most touch screen phones work in similar ways. This is since to operate them you touch the screen. Now back to my original question, how has HTC tried to emulate the iPhone? also How do you know that the next version of the iPhone OS will not have copied Android? And How do you even know that the next version of iPhone OS will be any different/better?

Oi, you lot, play nicely!

It's just a phone, I don't understand how anyone can get so worked up about it, really I don't I love my gadgets as much as the next person but one man's meat is another's poison so to speak although I'm a veggie and a female so I'm not sure where that leaves me

Anyway, please be good chaps and stop the name calling, it's not nice and upsets my delicate constitution. Ta

Not the first time you've ignored questions now is it?

I'm trying to be civilised and question your opinions but you do not answer them. Instead you instantly shut off and don't want to know if somebody does not agree with you.

Judging by most of the threads you have posted in other people have said very similar things.

No, it's just a small bunch of people including yourself that I end up ignoring. If you can't see that phones have evolved via the influence of the iPhone then why would I waste my time.

It's not the phone, it's the superior attitude of a certain poster that causes the 'issues'. Having said that I don't think anyone here is genuinely upset, people are just giving as good as they get and it is only the internet after all
