You don't need win7 drivers if they don't exist, Vistsa or XP drivers will work. If you try Vista ones they should install straight off. If you get XP ones install in xp compatability mode. Done it with a laptop that only has XP drivers available for it and no Microsoft Win7 drivers. Tried in non xp compatable mode and said need XP. Changed to compatabilty mode and installed fine and work fine.

 

When you installed Win 7 that effectively 'erased' Vista and put on Windows 7 in its place. The standard vga graphics adapter you are seeing is the default Microsoft driver being used as Microsoft have not included your graphics card in its list of supplied drivers. Therefore you need to download new ones. Ideally you would download the Win 7 driver for your video card. However not all manufacturers have updated their drivers for older machines and say that your hardware only has Vista and or XP drivers available.

I have had this and so had to use the only driver available which was for XP. Win 7 and Vista both have a very usefull feature called compatibility mode which allows you to run stuff only designed for XP. Download the driver for XP and right click on the file and select properties. There is then a number of tabs, one of which is compatibility. Select this tab and put a tick in the checkbox for "run this program in compatibility mode for" and then in the drop down box select the operating system the drivers were designed for - i.e. if you dowloaded the xp driver select xp sp3, if you downloaded the vista driver select vista sp2. Then click apply and then double click the file and run it.

It should install and work fine, you then have correct drivers for your card working giving you the correct resolution to choose from.
