Looked at a Focus RS today

The RS is a fantastic car, no one here would deny that; especially after driving one.
What you get with the STi and the Ford Focus RS is a fun car for a reasonable price; in both cases the interior is awful. Must admit Subaru have imporved
The Audi S3 has a really nice interior and is in different league build quality wise inside and out (in my opinion). I nearly bought an Audi S3, in the end the STi just had the performance jump and blow you sockets off wow factor, and I only do 5-6k miles per year.

2007 Audi S3 & 2008 STI.. Private road... nothing in it, at all... right up to 120mph... not even half a bonnet length.
The subaru did feel more planted around the corners though...I was able to carry much more speed every time, with later breaking also (the S3 looked like it's *** end was twitching...like it's driver at that point.. the road did have some bumps in it though so I'm assuming the S3's suspension is firmer)...
God knows what the subaru's other 30bhp was doing... off on holiday I assume..

I loved it in that Autocar video where Jost says that the gearbox is unaltered because it would do..... not accountant speak for "NO !" then ?
LOL
dunx
P.S. I love the character of the RS in the flesh, but at my age it's a forged re-built STI motor for me.....

I'd go for the RS. But a 2nd hand one. Prefer the looks to the Sti. Saw afew at the Ford Fair last year. Really got into them! Saying that, i haven't every spent more that £6500 for a car in 14 years what am i on about.
I'm off

Welcome to the 80's
Got to laugh at the irony of those posts - isn't it the 330S engines that keep going pop? Yet to have any problems with my Ford.
To Pete, I would buy neither of them for that money, get something a little older and higher spec or wait for them to be a few years old.
If I sell my ST I may get a 3 year old RS depending what price they get to, although the older I get the less the RS or 330S looks appeal to me.

The fact of the 5 doors may swing it ... yes, I'm more practical than concerned with image.
I am reading between the lines and these cars are struggling to find buyers at the moment ..... it could be that a 12 month old example is the best bet? They are clearly going to take a massive hit on resale prices - even the RS will suffer from over supply (going from a position of rarity).
The standard WRX at less than £18k does look like a good deal (especially if they are falling in value fast, too) - maybe a 12 month old WRX for £12k? Now, that would probably be the thinking mans choice?

12 month old WRX is a better option at that price, don't discount a 5 door ST after all its got the same volvo 5 pot.
Have you read EVO's review of the Mountune ST Vs FRS

Paul I love your RS, I'm talking about a budget of 12k like a 12 month old WRX and if your looking at that well why not look at a 5 door Mountune ST aswell
