Question Looked at a Focus RS today

Just by chance I was passing the Ford Showroom and saw a Blue RS in the window .... looking, well, very much like an Impreza.

So, in I go to have a look ... salesman was quite excited and said I could drive it away tomorrow if I wanted it (it was brand new) ... he seemed to be indicating that there was a shortage and waiting lists?

Had a play with it, boot is deeper than the Impreza which is good if you have a big dog - like I do. This one was fully loaded he said, it had all the options fitted and retails at over £35,500 ..... but, if I signed there and then, I could have it for £29,500 as he needs to hit a target and that will do it.

A STi 330S can be had for around that money, so I hesitated .... and left the deal on the table - I had, after all, just popped in because I saw it in the window, not done any research as yet.

AND, the seats were supportive once in them ..... but the bolster cushion is so high it is actually a pain in the rear end getting out and in!

So, if it was your money .... Focus RS fully equiped, or Impreza STi 330S?

Bearing in mind that if I buy the Ford I will have to join the Focus RS Forums - and you may never have me around here anymore But, just see if you can ignore that downside when considering your choice, thanks

So.........you were just passing the showroom and almost signed for it.

Don't be embarrassed to admit it, as they are awesome cars.

Have the Ford keep your classic, the classic you can then cherish and be safe in the knowledge you still have the best car and best model of Subaru made.

That was the one comment that I would make is the RS will hold its value longer, if ford had got there finger out and made it 4x4 it would definately be my choice, as they didnt it makes for a close call.

Focus RS every time - although I wouldn't be letting a dog anywhere near it!

It'll hold it's money better than the Impreza too.

Just done a search and it seems that there are plentiful supplies of the RS .... at discount prices. That would signal the end of the residual values being supported by lack of supply - the RS will not hold values like it maybe did previously?

I remember the Impreza when values for year old examples were higher than new! As soon as the import quotas were lifted, the supply improved and values took a tumble - I suspect we may see the very same with the RS in the coming months.

I now know why he was so keen on selling it to me ... there is no longer a shortage, and he wants to sell it as fast as he can before he needs to drop the price in competition with other discounters who also have plenty of stock!

I think I'd take the RS before the 330S but purely because in my book it looks meaner.

For a brand new car fully specced then 29500 is fair but I'd still see what else he was willing to knock off if you were (very) persistent. Afterall if thats a salesmans first offer then you should NEVER accept it.

As for residuals I think the FRS will keep value better than 330S but it will still take a bit hit as most new car prices do.

If you seriously want an RS then there are loads for circa 25k with less than 1k miles on but otherwise same spec as you where looking at.

Think he was telling you porkies....£35k lol, £29.5k is more like retail.

Cars are very rare when you can drive them for 6 months and get your money back
yes the RS wil lose money and so will the scooby, the RS will lose less ..FACT

I bought the RS because its a great fun car (if your shy dont buy one) i will own it a few years then sell for whatever its worth, i cant think of another car (in this budget) id swap for it

Do the seats irritate you? They are very high on the sides!

It had the Luxury Pack 2 it would seem ..... had a very nice interior, except for the 3 dials in a pod on the centre dash - they look very tacky indeed, not sure what they were thinking of there?

I went to lok at a Mondeo TDCi, now that is one very nicely kitted out car! At £14,000 it seems someting of a bargain .... but, the RS in the window pulled me in.

I'm old, but am I ready for a diesel? The wife thinks I still have some passion and so it needs to be something like a RS or Impreza ..... maybe the WRX at £17,999 OTR is the better option for me, in reality?

if i had the doe i would have bought it .....i am a ford man at heart. 330s do have a tendancy to let go from what i gather and i doubt money will fall of the ford like it does on a new scooby.
I heard a story the other day that ford are now assembling the last ford focus rs mk2 s and they will be carrying 350 hp. I think ford have been playing a game with the punters and getting top money for all these cars 29500 seems to be the norm.

I would go for the RS personally, especailly in blue, I prefer the looks over the 330S.
I would buy a very low mileage second hand one rather than a brand new one and save yourself 5 grand.

this forum would be much quieter without SSU

One thing I don't understand is putting 305 BHP through the front wheels ..... there must be some fancy electronics going on?

I had a Calibra 150 BHP and it used to scrabble like hell through the steering wheel under power .... do Ford cut the power down to something low to get the torque steer sorted out?
