Forced body x-ray scans at airports starting next week,

Don't forget about the flight crew, and the cabin staff, and the cleaners, and the maintenance staff, and the re-fuelers, and the transit-baggage handlers, and the ground crew and any number of other people who could "smuggle" some sort of bomb on board!!
At a guess, i reckon that statistically you are more likely to die of basic flight maintenance failure than any form of terrorism attack (maybe someone can come up with the figures?) - but hey, be afraid, queue up like sheep, do as you are told, obey those "who are to be obeyed" and don't make a fuss, it is for your own good, only a suspect would complain etc etc etc

How about fixing the fundamental failures before throwing unproven technology at things???

spent over three hours at their security checks watching suitcase get returned to it's component parts.
took me and some dutch girl so long to get cleared through their security they had to delay the flight for us!

If any of your family died due to one of these nutjobs getting through and blowing up there plane would you feel better knowing they didnt que like a sheep , I think NOT!

wish they'd had this when I was trying to get back from Tel Aviv 15 months ago.

but it won't. They don't work. (as in they are not capable of spotting the threat they are being put in place to counteract.) All they are doing is responding to movie plot threats... it's just window dressing. There is no substance to this 'improvement' whatsover.

OMG OMG WTF WTF shock horror!!
So what, unless you have a very small weiner and you have a complex about your very small weiner (quite a few seem to have small weiners in this thread by the looks of it) then its all for the better, I would feel much better being 90% sure after one of these checks that the "gentelman of Asian decent " sitting infront of me isnt packing C4 than sitting wondering if he could be packing C4, why complain about something that "could" end up saving our lifes FFS!

I am of the female persuasion who is none too happy about being virtually strip searched by a machine with a God knows what looking at the other end.
And, if you had read my post correctly, you would have noticed I have mixed feeling on the subject. Not casted out of hand because I may or may not have a small WEINER.

Err, who the hell are you. I don't have a weiner and have no complex as I have no such appendage.

I didn't 'chirp' in with a comment about racism for the hell of it, it was a direct reply to a post made. Maybe I should go about censoring posts that are racist, but personally I prefer to let people have their say, unless way out of line, or challenge those views. I have simply put my opinion forward on a post, it's not like I've prevented people having their opinion.
I gave an example of personal experience, and living in the real world. White, British people are converting to Islam.. Fact. Some no doubt could be brainwashed into the extremist ways, and be as likely to blow up a plane as a Muslim looking person. By the reckoning of the poster, potential terrorists would be unchecked, was my opinion that unreasonable? Oh and going by the opinion of that (and other) poster, other people of similar origins would be as inconvenienced by this system as white people, like I say, as much as Muslims who are not terrorists.
If this is going to be rolled out, it has to be fair and not include or exclude just based on skin colour.
For the record, I'm not going to apologise for having an opinion. I don't believe in racism and showing hatred to people just because of their history, religion choice or origin, and more to the point, their appearance without even knowing where they are from. Just as much as I don't agree with the way extremists view the west, and hate us just because of what we are as people as a whole. I hate extremism from either side, and I'm not ashamed of that.

Great article! Anyone worried about being struck by lightning? Perhaps we need a lightning scanner just to be sure ...

Stop the Panic on Air Security
PLEASE read these articles... it really helps put things into perspective. These scanners are an utter, utter waste of time

This may mean that you do not waste too much valuable security time on white, blue eyed British toddlers going by the surname Jones travelling with a reddish dad in a Kiss Me Quick hat!!! History shows (to the best of my recollection) that 99% of recent terrorists have actually conformed to the Islamic terrorist stereotype. That may mean its common sense in 'having more security interest' in similar looking people. Is that prejudice and racism or simply a measured intelligent response to fact?
Uncomfortable innit!

They are not forrced, if you don't want to be involved then don't travel by air, holiday in the uk or use a ferry, I hear france is nice!
If you use air travel through work then consider looking at a new job, simple
Ok maybe it will be an issue for people travelling through work who have major objections but personally I think anything which makes air travel safer is a good thing and i'm all for it.

and if the muslims dont like it they know what they can do about it: stop the extreme element of islam from misbehaving
Why should john smith on his way to mallorca for a week with his family be subjected to 3 hour check in times and x ray searches>
Mohammed al iqbal going to washington deserves all the checks and xrays we can throw at him!

well an xray/wave etc etc machine that shows a naked body isnt going to show up internal explosives, so then what, you have to have two scans and a full cavity search plus a compulsory vomitting to make sure you havent swallowed some explosive device??
open the flood gates for intrusive controls is all im saying.
steady on with the comments too gents, theres a lot of blatant racism in some of them coming through, maybe without intent but its still there.

OK - heres another one putting the cat amoungst the pidgeons.
What happens if a person with a turban "beeps" going through an existing scanner?
Do they make him take it off? Yes
Same goes with say a muslim women who is completely covered up? Take it off or dont fly!
If I'm wearing a coat I'm make to take it off.
If I'm wearing timberland boots then I'm made to remove them
So - shouldn't the boys with the turban and the covered up woman be made to put some stuff through the scanner?

Who cares if there is a scanner or not I couldn't care less what somebody is looking at (maybe I am bigger than average ) but if it isnt going to work get something that does. I think everybody should have to do what ever the security/airport decide is necessary including removing vales turbans etc
They can travel a different way if they dont like it I have to remove my shoes.

Someone with some *knowledge* of these things says 'nope' .... Interpol chief questions body scanner rollout ? The Register
"... The head of Interpol has questioned whether the ongoing scramble by western governments to install body scanners at airports is financially worthwhile and said they are is unlikely to stop terrorists ..."
and "... "Right now in our database we have over 11 million stolen or lost passports," he said. "These passports are being used, fraudulently altered and are being given to terrorists, war criminals, drug traffickers, human traffickers." ..."
Oh, and *maybe* someone could profit by calling for their introduction .... Homeland Security Secretary Linked to Body Scanner Manufacturer : Kevin Trudeau Show
"... Since the attempted bombing of a US airliner on Christmas Day, former Homeland Security secretary Michael Chertoff has given dozens of media interviews touting the need for the federal government to buy more full-body scanners for airports. What he has made little mention of is that the Chertoff Group, his security consulting agency, includes a client that manufactures the machines. Chertoff disclosed the relationship on a CNN program Wednesday, in response to a question. ..."
Hmmm. So, they wouldn't have detected any of the known plots so far (thong bomber, shoe bomber, etc etc) AND someone calling for their introduction could well profit, albeit indirectly (or in a brown paper bag!), from it. I smell lots of rats here .......
