That's a large proportion for you to have to take it easy in your FWD car and the rest of the "dry" days mine is still as good if not better!

As for the bulk dragging out the stopping distances.... That's why we have big brakes as standard!
You need those big brakes for the big mass.

Something else to consider here SirFozz, and having punted a fair few different types of motor round a circuit, a nicely balanced FWD with a good LSD in the wet is not far off the pace of an AWD out of a corner. Things have moved on in the suspension dept. Not quite as good for sure but then you have the FWD advantages in other areas to balance it.

Your wet AWD advantage is not the big dominant factor you think it is -on circuit anyway.

Road use - are you pushing that hard in the wet?

Snow - AWD wins, but a FWD on winter tyres can beat the sucker in his part-time mock AWD shod with summer sports tyres.

The hostile approach also falls at your door Budgie. There was no polite invite from you on the Megane site. Just a one line challange.

Oh and just another point here, wasnt a 2007 Sti Wagon about £27K list? No Megane comparison.

Just had a look at what Topgear say about the Megane:

"Good to look at, lots of kit, but not quite as good to drive as a Focus or a Golf"

Just a few specs, taken from the Renault Sport, Ford and Subaru websites:

Megane 250 Cup

Power - 250
Torque - 340
Acceleration 0-62 5.9
MPG Urban 24.6
MPG combined - 33.6

Focus RS

Power - 305
Torque - 440
Acceleration 0-62 - 5.9
MPG Urban - 13.4
MPG Combined - 30.1

Impreza STI (330)

Power - 300 (330)
Torque - 407 (470)
Acceleration 0-62 5.2 (4.8)

At the end of the day, it don't matter what spec the car is, it's all down to driver ability and personal preferance.

Because even at their "Good value" list price, they still can't shift them off the forecourts without heavily discounting them!

So you're admitting it's slower then?

Yeah, of course, all the Essex chav loons in their hot hatches do, so I like to keep ahead of them and out of the way! (joking! )

What no prices? - the point I've been on about for too long now. The Megane is £7k cheaper and dynamically better than both.

Yep, FWD slower out of a wet corner. AWD slower in other areas.

Are you going to admit to any AWD disadvantges then? You are starting to reveal a lack of understanding my good Sir.

250bhp
must do better.....

By the way Conrod, despite the huge amount of pi55 taking on here, we would openly invite any of you Frog Mobile boys to one of our meets. We base ourselves on like minded folks, not marques, so the welcome is always open

I know my car isn't the fastest and best handling. That's something I've learnt in the past......no matter what you drive, there's always some git out there with something faster!

Just banter from me to be honest. I love nice cars, all makes and models. I like the fact that people are so passionate about something that they are willing to argue it out with each other, makes life interesting.

Currently I own and drive a Subaru so I will defend it. If I sell it and buy something else I will defend that too!

It's 7K cheaper because as mentioned - no one wants to buy it, hence the discounts

I'd have more fun driving around in a Skoda Estelle 130 than a Renault AND less embarassing

How is the 250 dynamically a better car? You haven't managed to make me want to even test drive one

That is £7K cheaper - list price, not discounted. BTW I don't sell motors for a living and trying to get a sale here. I have some morals.

Dynamically better because when you look at the numbers you flashed up, the Megane gets round a circuit quicker on less poke with a top chassis, suspension and LSD package.

It's been good trading some banter.

See you out where it really counts - on the road/circuit. Enjoy those Scoobs.
