By the time your car started gaining on the Evo, a corner would appear, and it would start leaving you behind.
Go live in Germany. Plenty straight roads there for you to beat an Evo.

Once you learn how to use AWD you are significantly faster than a FWD car. When I first got my Impreza, I drove it like it was FWD. Waiting till it was almost out of the corner before hitting the throttle. Learn to nail the throttle earlier in the corner and allow the AWD system to do it's work, and you can gain massive advantages in term of pure A to B pace.
Drive an FQ360 like a FRS, and your statement above is true. Drive an FQ360 as it should be driven, and the Focus won't stand a chance. All this based on open country road with little or no traffic.

ford built a 4wd rs and a 2wd rs and found the car drove better with 2wd the guy who was involved in the design and build ( j capito or somthing like that) had a lot to do with porsche racing and designs so has a very good background and history there is a good video around somewere were he talks about the design and build of the RS
if ford buit a 40k RS im sure it would sell no problem there are people who are nuts about these cars, im am not one of them but i think its a great car as ive said before not the fastest but ill bet one of the best fun cars to own on the road today

I do not own a leon or a evo so do not really care which is quicker but what I do love is reading the opinions of the "driving legends" and "I-am-so-good-I-should-be-a-tester-for-ferrari" people on here.

). But if you haven't driven or owned a decent AWD car, then I'd suggest you shut up (or learn to drive it properly). They don't give cars AWD just to stop wheelspinniing at junctions. There are serious advantages in how fast you can exit a corner, thus giving more speed down the straight. Makes the car get from A to B faster than a FWD hatch.

I have been driven (then took the driving seat) on public roads by a Lotus test driver in a 111R - he was extremely fast and smooth. I have been driven on public roads by a Police driviing instructor (I was on a course) - he was amazingly good but also complimentary about my driving. But both were better than I'll ever be - driving well are their careers after all. But that doesn't mean I make BS claims about cars.
It's the classic forum thing - people getting totally overexcited about quickish cars then making stupid claims with no facts or anything to back them up.
On a track, on a public road, on an airfield, in Tesco car park - an Evo FQ360 is SO much quicker than an RS that to make a comparison just shouts "clueless."

fair enough, but the average person is not as good as Schumacher, Loeb or Mattee, so the extremes of how far you can push a car are not really relevant. And regarding the 'driving it properly' quote... people like Loeb drive an AWD car properly, people like Mattee just think they drive it properly.
And if someone drove a fq4000000, on a public road, like Loeb drives his car then everyone would say he was not driving it safely or properly.
And just to throw a spanner into Mattee's works... regarding twisty roads etc... I remember the FWD Xsara frequently beating the AWD cars of subaru etc in the Corsica rally and, if my memory serves me correctly, that had quite a few twisty sections.
And if someone drove a fq4000000, on a public road, like Loeb drives his car then everyone would say he was not driving it safely or properly.

god these threads bore me so much now. lol who cares, mine is now 340 with a bluefin stage 1 and its fecking great, Has shown several scoobs how to take roundabouts quicker than they could also.

I said I'm nowhere near as good as "proper" drivers but at least I've taken the time and effort to continue driver training to a decent Police standard (with the certificate to prove it) rather than just sniping behind the safety of a PC. You have no idea how well/badly I drive but unlike you, I have PROOF that I have taken training further than most rather than just blagging. And because I haven't been driven by you, I'm not going to "judge" your driving as I have no idea - just like you don't.
So I suggest you head back to your programming and get yourself a life.

TBH, I have never owned a games console and probably never will, but here goes anyway.
I do not know how well you drive, nor give a toss...... if you had simply stated, on this thread, that you have driven both cars and that you found the FQ a damn sight quicker then I would be sat here agreeing with you.....
But.....when you say stuff like 'I can pick a number of sublime roads around here where I know the exact entry and exit speeds of various cars' it just sounds, how many of your other posts on different forums have, that you have your head up your **** and that you are the be-all-and-end-off of everything.

TBH i have read about 5/6 of the posts and everytime you see RS in the title you know there are ***** getting all stupid AGAIN. I couldnt care if the RS is better worse than anything. Its a great car that I enjoy as my weekend toy, i have had better cars, The Noble & the spec'C' all have there issues, i can use the RS where i felt that both the others i wouldnt/couldnt.

MrEdge - please pick out the line that implies I am the be all and end all of driving. Obviously you have chosen to ignore the bits where I have said that many people are better drivers.
Like a few others on here, you pick and choose bits from posts I write and then make stupid assumptions based on some weird hangup. Most have now given up, realising they just make t1ts of themselves but some still persist.

Matt, you obviously haven't seen where I live, but I am surrounded by arguably the best roads in Britain and I have plenty of experience of them.
An Evo is quicker than an FRS, of course it is, but in my hands there wouldn't be much in it and I imagine that would be the case for most people, that is the point. I'm not arguing about facts or figures, or magazine opinion, just MY opinion on how I would drive the two cars MYSELF.
Driving gods like you and stilover may be able to obliterate everything on the road, but normal people with families and without a death wish drive within the limits.

No Youtube vids from down here but we have miles of open moorland, quiet country roads (off season), coast roads from heaven, etc. The first section of that vid reminds me very much of the roads around St Ives/Zennor.

Okay - there are decent roads near to both of us!
When I lived in the Docklands and had the R32, the nearest fun roads were over half an hour away - ARGHHH!!!

I'd quite happily meet up with you and Paulwrxboro for a drive along thos roads one Sunday morning. Nothing stupid, just a bit of safe rapid driving.

You are right about that S bend section from Richmond, that's the route we do on the Richmond STOC run, then I come back through Hawes and onto the Ribblehead road, through Settle, Long Preston and finally over the A682 to home, Britains biggest killer road.
Narrow and twisty is where it's at, proper roads!!
I lived in Middlesbrough for 4 years so spent lots of time driving up around there, Pickering, down into Yorks, and of course all the time I now spend round here - I do feel privileged with the roads we have round here. Will be up in the Lakes tomorrow as well hopefully.
A Sunday meet up would be good - the next STOC Richmond run should be soon.

id be up for a meet and a run out anytime and sti you can have a good drive of the car if you still think its pants you can tell the world but atleast you will have had a good drive of one (not like some ppl who just read lap times on the net and can quote anything under the power of a deisel 335)
