Think Ford have realised there is a huge market for tuning of the Focus RS. Especially as stories are around the Internet that RS's are struggling to get 300bhp on rolling roads.

Makes you think though. If Montune can produce a 350/370bhp RS. Wouldn't it have been brilliant if they'd given it AWD with 350/370bhp in the first place? I'd have bought one.

^^^ It is the extra £££ it would have cost, maybe another £10k retail. A lot for a focus. But lots of the technology existed in the focus chasis based Volvo V50 T5 AWD. I bet a MK2 FRS awd concept will turn up in years to come though.......

was up at bedford on saturday and there was a blue one there and i have to say out of all the cars there including my 500bhp sti 5 that it got most of the intension all day.

they guy who owned it had removed the cat in it and biy what a sound it made on full throttle almost sounded like a v8 when he got on full beans, sounded the nuts.

so to any owners on here decat the thing sounds bloody great!!!!

I'd love one, if only it was not just fwd Fwd is the most dull and boring way to put power down onto a road. At those power levels it just has to have a rwd bias for it to be truly fun to drive Sorry.....

No. Once the review started coming out, I did inquire again. Never got a test drive though. TBH a FWD hatch just didn't feel special enough to warrant as a weekend car only. Afterall I drive a FWD hatch every day. So it had to be either AWD or RWD for weekend special-ness. Went RWD.

I was too young to buy a new Escort Cosworth. This FRS was meant to be the new Escort Cosworth. Only it wasn't.

As for it doesn't need AWD. Admittedly they have made a good job of containing torque steer, but it still does. Just like the MK1, some are better than others. Ford didn't give it AWD cos it would have weighed 1600kg and cost more money.

Give it 350/370bhp with AWD and they could have charged £30k+ easily, and still sold them all. Look at the Evo FQ360. £37k.

I think the FQ360 is in a different league completely even if the FRS did have AWD and 350ish bhp. 0-60 in 3.9s for the IX - that's supercar territory and beyond.

The Evo is a totally focussed car - the FRS is a hatch with fast bits added on - while forgetting to reduce weight. I still think 1500kgs for a FWD hatch is bonkers.

All true, but I don't think the price would have been a stumbling block for Ford. Afterall the Escort Cosworth was £26k 15 years ago.

Yes 1500kg for a FWD hatch is stupid, really stupid. The Focus is a massive car. And if give AWD and 350bhp, it would be slower than the Evo, as the Evo is 1500kg with AWD already.

Yet it's quicker than an Escort Cosworth ever could be as std - go figure, we weren't as lucky back then.

Yes the FRS standard is faster than a 15+ year old standard Escort Cosworth. Same as a new Ferrari is faster than a 1993 Ferrari.

But where the Escort had a big performance cap betwen it and the rest of the range (and other manufacturers) the Focus RS, is just another fast Hatch. One of many for sale today. Guess your Escort Cosworth owner was luckier back then.

True, but what was good enough back then as the quickest Ford available is now surpassed by the current FRS so whether it has AWD or not doesn't matter.

i have always had a soft spot for fast fords and think the new frs is a nice looking addition to there line up. as said i do belive it would have benefitted from awd like the escort cossie did though!

I think a state of the art AWD system would have made the car a superior machine, but by how much will be debated until the end of time...

Regardless, she needs to lose a few hundred kilos from her ****

So what happens after 60 doesnt matter then? How often will you launch the evo till the clutch goes anyway?

Its 30mph plus that really shows how quick a car is, and a evo fq360 isnt that quick once rolling in this day and age.

Yes it is and it corners quicker than almost anything on the road. A FWD overpowered hatch is simply left for dead.
