Hell a focus RS with 360hp will be quicker than the evo from 60 onwards as it has less transmission losses. The evo 360 should be 400, and the 400 should have 500hp, especially for the amount of money mitsu want for it.

Or a breathed on Seat? To call a Evo 360 slow, is really rather stupid it has to be said.

But just imagine how fast the GT-R & Evo would be if they only had FWD. Think of all that weight saved, to make acceleration (Once running) even better.

lol what did i start here....to any1 who hasn't been in a FRS MK1 or MK2 they do handly extremely well in the corners and under brakin, and they do give any scoob a good old run 4 its dolla......but a 400bhp 2wd against a 400bhp 4wd drive car....obviousely traction is a huge factor but the RS can put it down ( unless its wet lol)......i'm sure there will be a santa pod session 1 day hopefully it would be god 2 see what actually happens

Depends what you call quick pov,i drive an RB320 & had a little play with FQ360,there wasnt alot in it really yes his car was a tad quicker than mine but it was so marginal it didnt matter.I still think my car is what i would call fast & enough for the roads i drive.

Thats the thing though mate, yes a evo will cain me round the corners, and launching, but once rolling, with my 360bhp, I will beat a fq360 easily in a straight line drag. Whenever Im at a event where we do rolling starts, the evo drivers etc always expect to blow me away, but when the opposite happens they give credit where credit is due. Dont get me wrong, I wanted a evo instead of the cupra, but I was 19 when I ordered it, and insurance companies wouldnt touch me on a evo.

My mate has a evo 8 mr with 420hp and that still wasnt much quicker than mine when I was running 330hp. Properly left me on the roundabouts though.

A UrQuattro for example, was a fast car 20 years ago, today its not.

Evos and scoobies used to be really thought of as super performance cars as when compared to everything else for the money they were untouched. In this day and age, a FWD hatch with a diff can upset a evo. Doesnt seem right to me, but basically I believe that the evo an scooby hasnt moved on that much over the years and the competition has caught up. And this is exactly why alot of you guys who drove scoobies 10 years ago, no longer do.

I'm sure i read in fast ford mag recently that ford are offering a four wheel drive system on the transit van as an option.
So why didn't they do it for the RS?

Good point.
In 2006 Ford offered this on the trannys ( I looked at getting one) and I believe it was an automatic 4wd system that just sent power to the fronts as and when needed via hydraulic mechanism and clutch's.
It isn't a full time 4wd system though, which I guess is what would be needed in an RS.

I suppose it's a bit like the old Haldex system?

I was too young to buy a new Escort Cosworth. This FRS was meant to be the new Escort Cosworth. Only it wasn't.

As for it doesn't need AWD. Admittedly they have made a good job of containing torque steer, but it still does. Just like the MK1, some are better than others. Ford didn't give it AWD cos it would have weighed 1600kg and cost more money.

Give it 350/370bhp with AWD and they could have charged £30k+ easily, and still sold them all. Look at the Evo FQ360. £37k.

as you only live 10mins down the road i will meet you when the wether gets a bit better and give you a good go of the car see if i can convert a hater if you dont like it you can post your opinion on here

will this 2wd thing ever go away ?
ford built a 4wd rs and a 2wd rs and found the car drove better with 2wd the guy who was involved in the design and build ( j capito or somthing like that) had a lot to do with porsche racing and designs so has a very good background and history there is a good video around somewere were he talks about the design and build of the RS
if ford buit a 40k RS im sure it would sell no problem there are people who are nuts about these cars, im am not one of them but i think its a great car as ive said before not the fastest but ill bet one of the best fun cars to own on the road today

So basically Ford could not develop a 4wd system within budget to take on either car, so they bottled it and decided take on the hot hatch market which the ST was already a front runner.

Ford tried to make the new Focus RS 4wd but failed, as admitted in the video above and decided to fool buyers into thinking the the revoknuckle fwd system is better than a 4wd system.
Yeah right

There's no denying theat AWD is better than FWD, it always will be as it's basic physics.

The point I always make is that for the majority of people, 99% of users on here, the limits of a 300bhp FWD hatch are so high that you would never reach them to need the advantages of AWD.

On the Focus runs we often have 3 lads in Impreza WR1's and their pal in an Audi RS4 and none of them ever have a significant advantage over any of the ST's or RS's on the run and this is in proper driving conditions up in the Yorkshire Dales.

Nobody can ever say FWD is better than AWD, especially in damp conditions, but the AWD advantage is so high up near the limits and at ridiculous speeds that it doesn't matter.

From A to B on a proper road nobody on here could drive an Evo FQ360 quicker than a Focus RS in terms of times, i.e. same driver, same road, same conditions. All IMHO of course.

I can absolutely say without any doubt that I could (and many here could) absolutely whip an FRS if I was in an Evo FQ360 on any road from motorway to very twisty B road. Yes I've only tested the ST but it gives a damn good idea of what the RS is like. The Evo I drove was SO much easier to drive quickly and has about twice the grip plus the yaw control means the back wheels are completely "with" you rather than just dragging along.

That's a silly statement and implies that an FRS is as quick as the fastest point to point all weather production car on the planet. It's not by a long way.

So you also think an RS is as fast as an FQ360 when driven by most people on here then? An RS has firmer suspension and more power than an ST and of course the all conquering "revoknuckle," defier of every law of motion ever devised. Hardly "nothing like" an RS.

An Evo, even a lesser engined model, monsters and RS to 60, 100 and around any bend. It's lighter, has much more advanced drivetrain technology and is a supercar eater not a fast hatch.

What is it with this new breed of overpowered FWD hatches - the owners seem to think their cars are invincible despite a branch of science called "physics" being ignored? Weird.

Again, you misunderstand what I say - the average driver won't be able to go quicker in an Evo than an FRS because most people don't drive like lunatics.

For me personally, I would never go over say 90mph on a normal NSL road, even if it was possible as things just get silly and out of hand over those speeds. On the Hawes/Ribblehead Viaduct road up in the Dales the average driver can't go at silly speeds as you WILL crash so in those situations and on those roads the cars limits are higher than I would push it so both cars would be equal.

I'm not saying an FRS is quicker than an EVO outright as it isn't, technically the Evo is quicker, but for me personally there is a limit to how fast you can go and an EVO and FRS can reach those limits.

But yes, there are those that will push the envelope and could go quicker in the Evo.

As for the ST, it is NOTHING like the RS at all, a std ST is slow tbh.

The point is, if you gave ME an Evo FQ360 and an FRS and then gave me a route to drive I wouldn't be significantly quicker in the EVO as there is a limit to how fast/mad I will drive and neither cars would be anywhere near those limits. Not that I'm a slow/inexperience driver, far from it, but I am sensible.

The Autocar video of the GTR vs FRS up on the very same roads I am talking of illustrates the point perfectly Matt, so go and view it.

Yes the GTR can outstrip the FRS in every discipline, but on those roads and in real world driving they are as matched as they can be without going silly.

Dream - I'm worried you don't have really good roads nearby?

There are tonnes of great roads here that if you exceed 90ish, you'll die. But they are brilliant for really testing any car - you can push anything (for me an FQ360 was the quickest but a 355 had a higher top speed) really hard.

I don't care if an RS is "totally" different to an ST (despite being similar weight, same chassis, same engine but less tuned, etc), it's still, gives an idea of the car's dynamics. Every Focus handles well but simple physics limit what can be achieved.

I can pick a number of sublime roads around here where I know the exact entry and exit speeds of various cars - the Evo was considerably quicker than anything I have driven in these roads - immediately feel "right," has such insane levels of grip that it scares you and the acceleration is mental - 60 in 3.9s (Evo IX) vs around 6s. 100 in well under 10 compared to 14ish. And that's in the dry. Chuck some rain in and the RS would be upside down in a ditch, the Evo wouldn't even break a sweat.

Why why why the delusion?! An Evo is GT-R territory. A RS is S3 territory (in fact as S3 gets to 100 a fair bit quicker) without the grip.

The Autocar "test" is just another way of grabbing some news. Evo did M6 vs Clio Cup not long ago - all very vague, all a bit pointless but it grabs people's attention.

Your on with that.

Plus, my 370Z should be run in by then, so a little road trip over some very tasty roads could be on the cards if you fancy that?
