Black trim is definitely nicer but then a sunroof is a mega bonus too.

Hmmmm....tricky!

Yeah, know what you're saying but I didnt have the sunroof in the wish list so thats neither here nor there in terms of making a decision, if its got - nice, if not - no probs kinda thing.

The 335i people have come back to me and offered £500 off the price and 6 months tax... I reckon I can probably get another £250 knocked off, which would take it to £19,500 with 6 months tax

Will be interesting to see what the guy with the 335D comes back with...

Its quite nice to be in a strong position with two separate dealerships fighting each other over two very very similar cars

Play them off against each other big time - I've knocked £3k off a new car doing that. Don't be shy - they NEED to sell them!

Oh I will be doing.

Knowing now that I'll get a better fuel allowance with the petrol, that is tempting (and the petrol has nearly 5k less miles on the clock), but then if I was to get a grand and 6 months tax from the D, then that would be only £500 more for the diesel (but with slightly higher miles)

Diesel will be more economical but the fuel is more expensive and the fuel allowance isnt as good.
The petrol will be more thirsty, but fuel is cheaper and I'll have a better allowance, and I'll have an extra £500 in my pocket from the purchase

Also, if the i comes with 6 months tax, and I do only keep it for twelve months, then the additional tax cost is pretty insignificant as I'll only need to tax it once for 6 months say.

Just spoke to Anna, told her to conundrum, she immediately said without hesitating "...get the petrol..."

She knows me better than anyone, so there you go... Anna has spoken

Still waiting on the deal for the diesel.

Si, if I get the petrol, would you like me to pass you on the details for the 335D......?

No thanks, need to get this 320d sorted for the Mrs first before making a decision on mine - the ST will do me fine for now.

Besides, I may go for a girly convertible one if I get one.

You can't get a 335i or 335d cab - reason? They are gay...;-)

I know, but the reason for getting rid of the ST (if I do), is that I'm just feeling too old to bother with rapid cars now, especially with a 3 year old on board.

Like the idea of cruising up to the Lakes on a Saturday in the summer with the roof down.

Matt, I know that, it would only be a 320d/i if I got a cab.

I've always loved performance cars, but these days I'm always with family so the extra expense of running them is wasted. We are hopefully going to the lakes tomorrow and will probably go in the ST, my lad will fall asleep on the way and I will just end up slowly cruising up ther at 56mph, whilst still only doing 25mpg at most.

Ok latest update...

The guy with the diesel hasnt even bothered coming back to me, so I rang the dealership, he didnt answer his phone and they even tried his mobile..

The woman with the petrol has now agreed to knock £750 off the price and put 6 months tax on it.

She's offered to drive up from Nottingham to Preston on Sunday to sign the paperwork.

'Cos as I drove past today it was being driven off the forecourt on trade plates with 2 people in it.

I might wander past again tomorrow and have a look at it.

Is she actually driving the car up to you or do you have to come down here to pick it up?

They have another apparently (slight more expensive), same colour, so it could have been that one?

No, she isnt driving it up here, she's only coming up on Sunday to do the paperwork even though I've paid the deposit. She went to have a look round it today for me and said they've only had it on two days and it hasnt even been valeted since it was brought in, so needed a clean.

If it was the one you saw today, I seriously hope they arent still doing test drives in it tomorrow! I only paid the deposit just before 5pm today to be fair though.

I thought you were going to say you'd looked at it and it was a nail or that you were going to buy it

Well I've just sold my 3rd Scoob, which was an STi. Personally, I prefer the 2.0 JDM STi as it happens.

Also, as much as I love Scoobs, I could never say that one was better than an E90 M3... no way.

(and I've just bought a car earlier if you read a couple of posts up )

I was only joshing - I didn't really see it today.

Me buy it? Why? We've already got 3 cars and one of those is a BM.

But I might still have a mosey tomorrow - I'll be going past there around midday so I might pop in.
So do they trailer it up to you or do you have to come here to get it?

I think if it were me I'd rather come down here for it (can't cost much on the train) and then have a nice drive back home.

They do on the petrol but not the diesel.

One dealer I spoke to said avoid like the plague, they got one on a p/x and said it took ages to shift as most people want the flappy paddle auto - me included

Only thing with that 335i is the tax band £425.00 from april 2010...

thats a problem come selling it mate

if you get one after 3 Sep 2007 – you paid £245.00 from aprill 2010..

that the one to buy & easier to sell too

Sorry rude question; how are you financing this? part exchange, cash , dealer finance?
I'm only asking as I think that I am fairly old fashioned in getting a bank loan for cars and as the financially astute say; buy an appreciating asset and lease a depreciating one.
Just curious to know what other people do.

Hmmm.... to be honest, if spending that money on tax stops someone buying a £20k car, the chances are they shouldnt be buying a £20k car....

To me, its all part of buying a certain sort of car, if you want something fast, fun etc etc, chances are, the insurance is going to cost more, fuel is going to cost more etc... if you're that frugal, I doubt you'd be in the market for that vehicle (IMO).

I certainly wouldnt let the fact its going to cost an extra £180 p/a stop me from getting the car I wanted, specially when the 07 plate costs significantly more than the £180 to buy
