It is possible and does happen but not the whole network and not in real time. I used to work for a company that provided software to transcribe and then search through telephone conversations. They also provided CCTV software that tracked people through the network of cameras.

What would the police do if, say, 10,000 people with a twitter account simultaneously tweeted about blowing something up? Like an obscure airport that 4 people a year use.

And who the **** pays any attention to anything anybody says on twatter anyway?

With investigating sh1te like this, it's amazing the police have any time to investigate actual crime and stuff...

I don't expect form one minute they want to, I expect they would much rather pursue actual criminals rather than idiots who think they are funny, but, I expect they are obliged to follow stuff like this up, imagine if someone did actually blow something up and they had ignored it ?

So you have the power to search and seize - but you have the discretion NOT to use it!!!

He was obviously not a terrorist and no threat to ANYONE - a five year old could understand this!

Why not simply designate the whole of the UK to be a dodgey terrorist threat and search everybodies underwear drawer for explosives under S44 (regardless of what the ECHR say) - BECAUSE YOU "CAN"???????

After all, you are only obeying orders

I think they would much rather pick on someone harmless that they can waste some time with - makes the day easy... no risk of getting themselves hurt or threatened...

AND - if they did look at the context of the comment - it was pretty obviously just someone letting off steam - but then 'what fun' if you are that sort of copper to make an 'example' of some geek who would probably mess his underwear at being hassled by the police over a 'terrorist crime'

Stupid waste of police time! - If they really thought he was a threat - they should have covertly wathched him to verify! - If he was part of an organised group really going to do something the last thing he'd do would be post on some daft social networking site - and he if he did get caught blabbing the others would fade away and re-emerge somewhere else.

Just doesn't stand up as a real scenario to me.

Makes you wonder about members of certain groups who can be openly subversive yet don't get touched because of "sensitivities" - but they'll pursue a 26yo employed white male in order for some provincial police force to claim they're dealing with terrorism. I suppose it makes their normal policing easier when they don't risk upsetting certain community groups...

Meanwhile the country is a hot bed of terrorism with this government allowing unidentified unknown persons into the country unchecked.
We must be a laughing stock around the world, for example i can see us all needing a visa in the future for a holiday in the US.
And the authorities choose to look the other way apart from the usual extreme bully boy tactics directed towards the indigenous population in the name of multiculturalism and political correctness.
Makes me want to pi$$

When you think about it, it must be almost as bad as mentioning that a statement by Straw was rubbish at a Labour Party conference. Nothing like being dragged out of your seat by a great fat bouncer when you are 80 years old and being held by the police for some hours under the "Prevention of Terrorism" Act.

Thought crime is quite unacceptable of course!
