I dont think the thread has gone of the rails.. This is the type of thread I like to join in on, as its quite interesting.. Every one here who has joined in on the discussion has had something to offer as far as their opinion on the topic goes, the only person here who went slightly off topic (bitchy) was me!

Anyway.. B33rs/soft-drink's all round on me if we ever all meet up!

When I get my car back that is.. It got smashed up on my way back from oulton park 4 weeks ago! So as far as skylines go, anything would cane my car at the moment! :P

I think I have the answer to the original question. Cem, correct me if I am wrong:-

An average driver is likely to be quicker around a track in a standard Evo compared to a standard R34. This is due to the rear wheel bias of the Skyline and the fact that the Evo is probably easier to drive fast.

A skilled driver would turn the tables though, as the Skyline is ultimately the more capable car, but it takes a good driver to unleash its potential.

Again, i am only speculating here, and basing my opinions on what I have seen, heard and read. I have owned an Evo 6 and WILL own an R34 very soon ( I hope)...

sorry guys, have to come in and asy, my car is the best car on the planet. for me of course.

Sad fact is this is actually true.

I loved blowdogs gsr, his mak, and still adore his skyline, and at any point, I could have sold my car and gone down the same route as him.

2 things stopped me, even though my car is seriously flawed.

1. variety is the spice of life
2. I prefer my flawed car

there is nothing else to it, you cannot comapre two cars, only your own opinions of them.

Any westfield will kill me on track, any skyline will kill me at the nurburgring, any ferrari will out residual me and out pose me, any tvr will pull more women etc etc.

choose your compromise and stick with it, and let others have their fun.

I think there should be reference threads with these types of replies on them, because it really is boring saying the same thing again and again.

I am sick to the hind teeth of my RS is quicker than your Scoob blah, blah....

I don't know an awful lot about the Evo 7 or R34. I went out in Cem's Mak and hopefully will in the R34 soon and both are amazing.

If you read my post, it posed a hypothetical situation of equal drivers etc etc and I was genuinely interested in peoples opinions and knowledge as to which would be quicker in standard form - and the replies were interesting I found. It wasn't to get a rise out of anyone or pick ****** in the armoury of either car.

If it annoys you or bores don't bother replying mate.

I've got a standard R33 GTR V-Spec, but I'm way above average as a driver! Still, if you fancy it, lets rock! LOL

Seriously Guys, a standard Evo7 might well be quicker than a standard R34, but who gives a cr4p. You all know which one you'd rather be seen in and own. It'll be the one that comes in Bayside Blue.

I rest my case

Actually, er, no..... I preferred an Evo myself. The next guy might prefer the Skyline.....

It's all down to personal preference, as has been said time and again and, thankfully, we all have different tastes otherwise life would be very dull.....

Thumbs up

The VCD which i showed monsieur Oz today shows the R34 in standard form in a straight line is slow in comparision, to its tuned competitors (Mines, Esprit(720BHP), etc), but round the twisties more than holds its own.

Me i would have a Skyline V-Spec over any metal, and am very jealous of all you lucky owners, even thou i have passed one on track in my 1.6, Ok the guy was learning.

blimey you don't look at scoobynet for a few weeks and it all kicks off.
I get fed up with educating people time after time on this issue, but it seems to me this thread is woefully short on intellect.
Given drivers of similar calibre an EVO would be quicker on a B road and a Skyline would be quicker on a circuit, it really is as simple as that !!!!!
Why? Well it goes a little something like this......The R34 VSPEC (V is for victory in the Japanese touring car championship....hehehehe) is set up with mega stiff suspension settings with the damping optimised for high speed driving. The EVO is a rally clone which is more road biased in it's setup so that given the crap surfacing of our typical UK road the EVO has more chance of getting the power down. An R34 Vspec will hop skip and generally jump over the pot holes and nasty cambers (changing position mid corner I find a particular speciality of the R34 )consequently rendering the car much more of a challenge on UK roads and you really need bollox the size of spacehoppers to gop at it with a scoob or an evo down a b road. Anyone who doubts the R34 as a superior track weapon should have seen Birdy dust a modded (320 bhp) Evo at Donnington with my standarish... R34 (exhaust and filter) we struggled on the straights but he we were carrying much much more corner speed and ended up sliding up the inside at Melbourne Loop
Steve
BTW I am considering an Evo 7 as my next car and may consider selling my Skyline as I don't really get to use it all that often. Me I get to hustle a white van duroing the day much more fun to ROLL through the twisties

Hey
Great thread but...
I think EVO Subaru and Skyline are all great cars. They all have their own pros and cons. At the end of the day it is is all down to 1. how the car has been modified 2. who is driving it 3. how well they know the track/road.
I happen to love subarus, the look the way it looks the way it sounds, the pleasure it gives me down empty country roads. BUT total respect to EVOs and Skylines especialy the one I had a bit of fun with the other day ;-)
Whatever you drive...have fun
Cheers

hehe, exactly what I was gonna say.

Those who reckon the R34 is tricky to handle in the twisties are right AND wrong.

Compared to an inert Scooby, a Skyline will initially feel a bit big and precarious (after all, you don't want to go stuffing £55,000 of car)..

However, if you actually have the ***** to grab a Skyline by the scruff of the neck and chuck it about, suddenly the car feels a lot smaller and lighter than it's bulk would have you think.

A Skyline is intrinsically a rear wheel drive car, such that if you boot it mid corner, the back end will step out.. (whereas a scoob will mildly understeer) But, when a Skyline senses you're losing grip, it will gradually throw more torque to the front wheels, enabling you to keep the power down and go in the direction you're pointing the steering wheel.

The first time this happens it's very scary, because you worry that your car is going to have so much momentum that you'll end up off the track... but it doesn't, it just makes you look a hero hanging the ****-end out, as you turn the corner (very nice).

Driven by a numb-nuts, an Evo is most likely to be quicker A-B.. driven by someone with experience, the outcome isn't so certain.. however, I can guarantee that irrespective of your skill level, the Skyline is going to be shedloads more fun.

(and as for Skyline owners being tossers, well yep, there are a few tossers owning them, and there are plenty of w/ankers driving Scoobies too.. However you only need to have a chat with Blowdog to realise that they're not all tossers)

Here are some movies of antics in my Skyline

Complex Movie

Hairpin Movie

Left Hander Movie

However, it never ceases to amaze me how many people have an opinion yet have never driven one.

PS. In my view a standard Skyline has 400bhp, not 276bhp.

The cars are restricted at birth, a few breathing mods will unleash 400 without fuss.

Well said all above. I'm still staggered by Davids driving at Bedford in the R34. Every time I came into the pits, I felt a bit of a hero with mild oversteer at every opportunity. Only I would then see David come past the pit straight 'facing' us, he would be that sideways.

I've given up anyway, I tried to convert a few (very grateful) people at Bedford by giving them rides, but the rest of them need to feel gods power before they give into faith!

Having extensive experience of none of the discussed cars on a track I believe that I am the most qualified to comment on the handling of these cars...

eh OK not really, life would be so boring if we all drove around in the same cars.

Same as above but i thaught the whole point of a skyline was that you could up the boost throw out 500 + Bhp then flatten your foot to the floor knowing the traction control active yaw thingy would keep ypu on the track ?

Skylines don't have traction control, or active yaw control.

Evo's have AYC IIRC

There's a common misconception that the Skyline "drives itself" and you can have loads of fun "if you turn the computer off".. I have no idea where people get this rubbish from.

Having done and researching the R34 for my forthcoming purchase in the year i don't when, but boy will i buy one, it is less tailhappy than the predessors, but still drives more like a RWD.

Don't care one anyone says, been out in a couple of them (not drove them, passenger laps), and it is an awesome bit of kit, and is an all time must bit of kit.

Hey Glen (T9KYO)

I followed you (as best as i could) down to Bolney. I was in the Teg in convoy with Ricardo. I think your car is beautiful and certainly seemed 'quite whizzy'.

R34 SKYLINES ARE AWESOME.
EVOS ARE AWESOME.
SCOOBIES ARE AWESOME.
