Sounds like the draytek could be the way to go then, as it'll allow you to use the AEBS for the inside network which is what you want.

I've never used a draytek but when I was looking into broadband back in the UK one of their Vigor units was high on my list of devices as others had used them and said they were good bits of kit.

I will pick one up this week - looks like I will have to order one as places like PC World don't sell anything near as useful as this. I will let you know how I get on.

Some progress made today but still no quite there yet.

I have an AEBS running in bridge mode with the modem/router.

I have a second Airport Extreme in 'Extend a Network mode'.

The two issues remaining are that the attaching to the repeater is giving VERY poor speeds - 10-15% of the speed at the router. Also signal strength is variable. The base AEBS is fast, rock solid, excellent signal strength (better than any other router I have used). More work to be done!!

I am attaching in g mode as my Macbook Pro is one of the few that cannot be readily upgraded to n mode.

All up and running now - was getting some conflict between the two AEBS. Set up the second again from scratch and all good now.

Very stable - great range. Got a bunch of disks hanging off it now - 3TB of 'Airdisks' and a printer.

Thank you for being patient through my learning curve. Will see how I get on - and maybe get the Draytek for the final step of efficiency.
