Anyone into RC cars?
what about the older 2.5 revo?
this is what i have got and have put the engine from the 3.3 in it.
it is quite quick, i have changed the gears to give better low down speed over top end

starter boxes are small platforms, which just turn the flywheel under the car by friction to get the started. you still have to dick about with a glowstart, or glowstart cable and they can be quite fiddly.
wait till next year and get a revo.
also buggies (hyper7's and the like need a fairly short grass as the wheel diameters are relatively small, this can end in premature clutch burnout/glazing.
depends on what you want to do with it....
monster trucks are about 10 times more fun than buggies !! imho
i mean....just look at it !!!

compared to this "toy" lol

if you want to race buggies for competition, the Hyper7 is a good way to go, for all else though......

You lot are bad for my wallet. That REVO truck looks superb
Have had a few electric models over the years, various Tamiya things, LOSI Mini-LST, but have always fancied a Nitro as the batteries never seem to last for long enough. I'd be very tempted to splash the cash on one of them

hahaha nice one CD !! - here's another r/c tip.... always try and buy new and look after the thing. they take a little patience and keep them clean etc after use, you will get years out of them. also read the manuals that come with the cars, dont jump in with both feet as they are very sensitive and not the robust "TOYS" that they look like.
also, get a safety cutout, which stops power, should the handset fail or go out of range....
the times i've chased cars across footie pitches becase i never turned the reciever on !!!!
and trust me, they have a habit of driving away at exactly the same speed that you can run, so you always think you have a chance of catching them up (but you never do!!!)
hahhahah happy days !

+1 for E-Revo (VXL or standard)
They are really good fun, but both are fairly well sealed up from the elements so you can run them in the rain.
There are a few minor mods that you need to do to make them 100% water proof but its no major hassle.
I used to be big into 1/8th buggies and I used to regularly melt engines!! They are a bit faster and more fun, but they are messy, smelly, loud and unreliable. A few years ago I put a brand new engine in my car, took it out after running it in and managed to flip it upside down, but the throttle jammed, it was about 100m away, and by the time I got there it was dead. £150 down the drain in about 4 minutes. I think brushless is the way forward.
I am probably going to get a VXL in the new year.
One word of warning, I went from RC cars to RC helicopters... if you think the cars are expensive and have a lot of down time you want to try helicopters... ten times the cost when you crash, plus ten times the set up time, for about one tenth of the flight time.

HTH!

.I've currently got 2 450 clones and a genuine align 450 plus a hb king 2 and a clone align 250 on the way
In cars ive got a pair of early tamiya manta rays fully hopped up which used to scare the nitro boys on a twisty circuit, also an 1/8 tt eb4 buggy with too many mods to think about that needs a motor refresh.
TBH ive had monster trucks and buggys and I'd go for the buggy anytime as long as it was less than 4 inches of grass.
However I'm rather tempted to try a brushless esc and motor on one of the 10th scale manta rays running a lipo from one of my helis as they can be had for about 60-70 notes from HK. Having heard about my mate sons conversion and seeing some of the nitro vs brushless vid online I reckon it might be worth the punt.
Cheers richie
Cheap and effective mod is the neck of a balloon. Wind it round the throttle servo and carb. This will pull the throttle closed if you lose contact.
Also worth pointing out that unless at a track and a BRCA member, your not insured if you collect someone.
I used to race 1/8 cars like the Hyper. Trucks never really interested me but I think a truck would be a better play thing than the buggy.
My preference is 1/10 4WD electric but its not popular in the UK these days.
We launched the new Team Durango DX410 and its gone down a right storm
I've tested the HPI Savage X 4.6, HPI Savage XL and the Traxxas Revo 3.3 and I have to say that the Revo 3.3 is my prefered car out of the 3.
The Savage X 4.6 sits to high and it flips over easy but a great car for everyday bashing.
The Savage XL is much better than the X4.6. Its faster and handles much much better.
The Revo is the best out of the 3 but its a right pain in the **** to work on if you break anything. If you dont like spending hours working on a car then stay away from this one unless you're a good driver.
if you're gonna drive it once in a while then a monster truck is the way to go as they're designed for bashing with no regular maintenance where a buggy (Hyper) is more of a racing spec car that will require regular maintenance.
A buggy will be easier to drive or you can go really laxy like the yanks and go for a truggy with a massive stance.

you're not wrong there, but if youve gone to align then I know a man who is able to get parts(or equal quality clone kits) at much cheapness
.

(stupidly cheap prices too so even if customs hit you the charges are minimal
) Cheers richie

Every time it bites the dust I think, sod it, thats it no more.... but then a week later I get up the guts to rebuild it... every time it goes in I know its £50+ gone... but its worth it when it all goes smooth and you get that 10 or 15 minutes of free air and land it at the end and just get to put it away without swearing
1/10 4WD electric is now massive in the uk.

How long has it taken to get the Durango to the masses!
What do you do Ray Li?
I haven't raced for a couple of years and finished in 1/8 Rallycross. My local club moved to rallycross and there was only two or three that favoured 1/10 4WD so we got bundled into the 2WD class which wasn't much fun.
I loved rallycross but it was alot of work - one night to strip, one night to rebuild every week. Leccy - lob cells in and drive, Job Done!

Every Christmas I get twitchy to start again.

Cheers for all the advice guys. This arrived yesterday but still running it in at the mo. Gotta say I do like to stance of the hyper and the low centre of gravity. Went for the Mach28 just for some added oomph :-D
Hi friends
Worth every penny, and compared to some friends running HPI stuff, the Traxxas cars/buggies/trucks spent more time running compared the the HPI cars/buggies/trucks that seemed to be continually breaking down.
If I was going to start again, I would possibly consider battery over nitro though.
Regards
Sid
