Or keeping up with and beating the joneses

Maybe you have several young children an if so then fair enough I suppose, even then the novelty will soon wear off on them I'd imagine.
TBH, before I met my fiancee, I had one small tree for the presents, a little thing for the window, a rope light down the stairs and ONE set of icicles for the back door. That was it.

Now..well you can see for yourself , but she loves it and so do the kids and whilst I dont have the heart to give her the electricity bill come february, I might have to to soon

I prefer the subtle look but as long as she likes it, that is all that matters

Oh dont worry, I didnt take any offence. I fully understand that my fiancee is mad as a box of frogs, but that is the cross I bear.
For example : Who would drive around in a car that looks like this for xmas

Now do you see

Sorry Swish but there is no way there are 2 cars in the world that look that bad Luckily she hasn't done that to her scoob because there is no bloody way I would drive it

I can't be bothered with outside lights and I knew Swiss before he met my sister and yes her used to have a real tree (still does) and a few lights and that was it, it's plain to see who wears the trousers in that house now

The house looks fantastic this year though, not my cup of tea with the work that goes into it but it looks amazing! At least it's easier to find your house in the dark

If that is what she and the children like, then you are right to do it. Certainly unecessary to make unpleasant inferences about your reasoning behind it either.

Lot of others will get pleasure from seeing it too.

It is Though that is why she likes the lights, so she can find the house when she hasnt got her glasses on

They do it seems. We have regular visitors with kids and people stopping to gaze at the lights. It has a second purpose of course as the kids know that Santa cant have an excuse for missing our bloody house

Must admit, my missus makes fun and says the "Car wash Christmas Extravaganza" is the ****tiest Santas Grotto ever

But the kids who go through the wash love it, we have a few other lights/light up santa things that go up, and the external speaker on the side of the building now plays Christmas Carols all day long to the public

The 2 lads usually make around 350quid each in tips during the CWCE event
So it must have some kind of effect!
