What's the difference between Haldex and the 4wd in the Insignia VXR?

Is this also crap like the Haldex system? Shouldn't these Haldex systems be better as you get 4wd when you need it but 2wd when cruising? So transmission losses wouldn't be as high.

Jimpreza - Haldex systems vary massively - they used to all be a bit average but now it seems they have been refined.
My R32 system was Haldex and actually worked pretty well 95% of the time - but just occasionally you could feel that shift in driven wheels and it was a bit unsettling. And sometimes made it understeer. Which I hate.

Understeer is safer than oversteer for the vast majority of drivers. Even a RWD manufacturer like BMW will have dialled out the oversteer as best as they can. In the case of most modern cars, the ability to feel each square inch of tarmac has been replaced with the need for comfort and safety.
The Haldex system in the S3 I had was very good, never once did it feel clunky or unsettling. Coming from a long line of Imprezas, an Evo and a 330D in there for good measure (I even had a Leon Cupra 10 years ago ) I always thought it handled pretty well. Certainly more than capable on the limits of UK roads.
Mattee, your statement that Haldex systems vary enormously is very misleading. As you know Haldex is the manufacturer, each generation of their system is an evolution of the one prior, so it stands to reason that its likely to be improved.
Anyway back on topic, the price of cars has risen recently due to the poor exchange rate. That 85k is a massive 10k Euro difference between current and 52 week high rates.
