R35 GTR. Feck.

ok they aren't quite as expensive as i orginally thought, but i couldn't afford one and i have never been out of work for a day in my life.
I don't begrudge anyone who can afford it, and while i except 11K is a lot i still stand by the fact if you are going to buy something like that dont expect it to be cheap to fix. AS i have already stated i have seen car that have been in minor accidents encurr repair bills of a few thousand pounds because of all the systems that have to be replace after an accident.
Would be intersting to see the bill though to see exactly where the 11k went

Alloy, there are those that would love to slag off anything that is covetable, I hope I haven't come across like that as thats not my intention.
I'm genuinely gobsmacked by the costs of this car, that seem disproportionate to its purchase cost AND performance. I've not driven a GTR but have driven a 997tt, if the GTR is a bit better than the 997tt it still doesn't justify the costs we hear about.
On some level I feel its a bit dishonest of Nissan, if you build a car to rival/ beat the 997tt then have costs that rival it, not costs that are twice that.
I feel that some poor owners might get really stung. You buy a £50k car and you expect the costs that come with a £50k car, not costs that come with a £250k car, even if it performs like a £100k car. Do you see where I am coming from?
Anyway, as you said, the most important thing is that you are enjoying the car, and I genuinely hope you continue to do so. I just feel that Nissan has done a bit of a stinky one

Obviously, an MOT certificate only confirms the vehicle, at the time of its test, met the minimum road safety standards required by UK law.
I think his point is, what if you remove the rams, take it for an MOT which it will then most certainly pass. You then 10 minutes later go and kill someone by pure accident, resulting in a head injury etc
As long as insurance etc is in order, then no claim against the driver can be made, it is just not feasible in the courts of this land.
For instance, what if I bought a second hand GTR with them removed?
What about boy racers using after market over sized front bumpers, which have not been type tested?
The list is endless.

Hit a pedestrian in an Impreza (Saloon) and they'll slide up the bonnet and head butt the scoop. Injured? Fractured scull, broken neck etc.

Dedrater - so your point was not really about MOTs, more about the law of the land. Even there I am not sure, I suspect that it is an area of consistent challenge with things like Bull Bars smashing peoples skulls in or Subaru Scoops eating whole families!
DingDongler - I refer to my earlier post that if a GTR was sold at market price it would cost around £120-150k. At that price you may well expect scary repair costs (just check out fixing a Lambo) and, at least at the moment, the GTR is meeting every expectation on that front!

Right back on topic, Crispy Rice has posted the invoice details. Looking at it I would say pretty much no difference to a Porsche invoice for similar front end rebuild. The padding in the price are the actuators and the pedestrian ECU.
The main debating point now is that someone was quoting around 30% of the prices for the actuators - not sure if that was kosher (or whatever the Japanese equivalent is)!

コーシャ. That's Japanese for Kosher .
I know that's not what you meant, though.
So, the infamous 'Energy Absorber'... the £179.34 piece of 1"sq polystyrene.
Classic.

I think the Porsche Falldämpfer is actually about 400 Euros as it has more of a Motorsport Heritage.
Bottom line is that Porsche parts prices make your eyes water in ways you didn't believe possible! Nissan supercar drivers are simply catching up!

For instance, bull bars. They were known to cause serious injury, but claims could not be made against the drivers because at the time they could pass an MOT. So a change in the law was required and this came (in the UK) under 3 acts, road traffic act 1988, road vehicle construction and use 1986 and general product safety regulations 200
One could claim that what I have quoted below could apply to the bonnet rams, but as it is not mentioned any ware, then a change in the law would be required before claims could be made on drivers via cars failing MOTs etc
Road Traffic act 1988 section 41, A person who uses or allows to be used a motor vehicle which does not comply with these regulations
Section 75, no person shall supply a motor vehicle or alter a vehicle in an unroadworthy condition, unroadworthy means use on a road would be in contravention of section 41
Section 76, if a person supplies a part, or fits a part such that it fails to comply with section 41 they are guilty of an offence
The Road Vehicle Construction and use 1986, a motor vehicle and all its accessories will at all times be kept in a condition so that no danger is caused to any person in or on a vehicle or on the road:

I never felt Porsche parts were ****-take expensive anyway.
(VW however...)

yeah -- what in idiot I am
I suppose my only consolation was that it was for work on an appreciating asset (roughly 4.75 time what I paid -- giving me a paper profit of over 600K and an additional income of nearly double the average wage)
stiil I might look at pimplico plumbers

Not even a hint of "My internet wallet is larger than your internet wallet" in that post.

Well now that we know Trout 'has deep pockets' and Hodgy has made his obligatory Notting Hill property portfolio comment perhaps we can get back on topic.
, I'd like to know why Trout thinks the market value for a GTR is £120-£150k?
