WR1?

I'd go for the SC46, if it was mine. The TMIC and rods will prob be at their limits if it were to make 450bhp though. Not sure about the OEM pistons.

If unsure, the the SC42 will keep everything 'safer' (plus a shade better spool-up too).

Overkill on the inj. though - 740cc more than adequate (even 650cc prob okay). You'll benefit from nicer idle/low-speed running/consumption on the smaller inj.

that's true

My car is a WRX STI 8 with DCCD
The guy who maps my car recommend the ID 1000cc because he makes a bi map sp95 and e85

Just a question: in UK all the WRX STI models have a 2.5 engine, no ?

Ah, fair enough on the injectors, then.

AFAIK the 2.5L happened from the MY05 UK Hawkeye STi model... But stand on being corrected.

But on the standard OEM Subaru map, the 2.5L motor is a liability. As the ringlands can burn away due to the aggressive map. A safe remap sorts it, if you get it remapped before any damage has occured. I think it's mainly more of a problem on the MY08 STi Hatch - see here:-

2008-2010 2.5ltr Engine Failures

But Hawk happened at MY05 though right? No?

So are you saying the MY05-06 STi was NOT 2.5... But then from MY06>on, they were?

MY05 is 2.0l, MY06 2.5l. The fact that MY05 was available anytime from October 2004 (for a JDM import like mine) to, no doubt, sometime in 2006 as dealers cleared stocks, doesn't change the spec of the MY05 model...if that makes sense?

Sure sure.

I just assumed as soon as the Hawk was introduced to the UK, that it started off with the 2.5 from the outset. But obviously only form MY06 (i.e. those cars manufactured between late 05 to late 06, and on>).

I think you're muddling Model Year with year of registration

Model Year covers the spec..all MY06 are 2.5 regardless of the year they are registered. All MY05 are 2.0l regardless of the year they are registered. An MY05, whether registered in 2004 or 2006, is STILL an MY05 - i.e. the last model year for blobeye, the first model year with 114.3 pcd etc.

No I DO understand how the MY yearing works.

That's why I used 'manufactured' in my above confirmation of what you said i.e. cars produced at the factory (and not older ones already sitting at dealerships unsold going over into the MY06's 'bracket months').

It's prob getting a bit (unnecessarily) confusing now, so forget it.

(MY06 is fine - I do understand what that entails. )

May be a question of how I interpreted your words of course, but that led me to think you *might* have misunderstood model years - not trying to score points, just trying to make it clear for the OP who asked the question

So - MY06 (UK)/hawkeye started, and finished, with 2.5l engine and never had a 2.0l...one of the distinguishing features of an MY06 UK is, indeed, the 2.5l engine (MY06 JDM was, however 2.0l, just to confused things ).

Yeah indeed.

Yeah it was just an 'interpretation' thing lol.

BTW, did only the UK MY06>on STi have the 2.5? Or the WRX too?

You learn something new every week (on here). I didn't necessarily know that.

Thanks.

If you have Subaru rods you are restricted there. 430-450 bhp max in my experience.
I am unsure as to your pistons that could be a further restriction.

Get your finger out Mick.

i was told that because its a later model jdm STi twinscroll engine it had the stronger version 9 nitrided cross drilled crank, version 9 rods and pistons and should be ok for 450+,now whether this is fact or not,im not entirely sure.

Powered by the SC46 Billet pulling 450 BHP, it is true to say on a road car you would never be able to give the car as much pain as seen on track.

Here is another sti 9 rod this time SC46 Billet powered fast road occasional track car, problem was to many occasional track days and..........

From the above results we have dropped the rating to 400 BHP.

Cheers

Hi Mick,

as stated before its nigh on impossible to give any road car the pain suffered on track, unless you start doing track days you will be fine.

We run, build and look after many track cars and can see a car use a set of pads front and rear in a days racing easily, not something seen on a road car, just shows how much a track day or a race meet will hammer a car, hence STI 9 rods are probably OK for 450 BHP fast road use but definitely not for a track day 450 BHP car.

cheers

Tbh I was in this position when I had my SC46 based build. The way I looked at it

£400 quid extra for forged rods and I'd never have to worry about them - whatever I did with the car

Or save £400 and always wonder....

hi,

back to Billet turbo chargers.

Here is a sleeve bearing SC38 Billet on a 2.5 with forged internals running straight V power.
