Kev, in this thread there is good talk about the use of Methanol. Looking at it a 10% mix gives a nice power increase, is it just a case of pouring the methanol in getting the ECU mapped accordingly or does anything else have to be done. Possibly a idiots guide to using Methanol could be included in this thread or a new thread before someone uses it, things go wrong and a bad post is put up.
It is available through Jennychem who will deliver it in 25 litre or 210 litres, so make sure you have somewhere to store it away from direct sunlight, naked flames, children and animals. The 210 litre drums come with a hand operated syphon pump to get it into your Jerry can or similar.
To achieve a 10% mix just add 5 litres of methanol to 45 litres of fuel every time you fill up. If you prefer to run half a tank, then only add 2.5 litres to 22.5 litres of fuel. For a 20% mix the same maths applies, 10 litres of meth and add 40 litres of fuel.
Your fueling will lean out quite a bit with methanol, so get it mapped at the same time as adding it for the first time and don't switch percentages without having it mapped again.
Remember to wear gloves when dispensing it as it can be absorbed by the skin.
Remember if you don't have map switching you will have to run it all the time when you have mapped for it.
A 10% mix can be good for up to 7% more power from our tests and 20% mixes can be good for in excess of 10% more power.
Hope this helps.

Using methanol does seem to scare a lot of people, it really couldn't be simpler.

Hi,
saved me a job
Thanks Martyn

I must point out that we at scoobyclinic are only adding 10% methanol to certain vehicles so we can see what effects this has on final power figures, mainly for track use and are not recomending every one go out and start adding it to their fuel

On another note the SC36 Billet, mapped on a 2.0ltr sti with syvecs and no methanol, gave us 373 BHP

Not bad for a budget turbo costing just £750.00 + vat.
Dare I say it, with 10% methanol we would see near on 400 BHP

Cheers
Kev

Must admit I was expecting 360 tops and it easily went over that but the thing just pulls and pulls, credit to the guys at clinic for bringing these turbo's to the market, awesome bit of kit!!
And no Kev, you shouldnt have mentioned the methanol, you already know its down for a tweak and MOT in the coming weeks, id not even thought of adding this to the list

.
.
(now goes to check prices of methanol)
Cheers guys

Cheers. Can't argue with that price.
If you get mapped on a 10% meth/90% 99RON mix - and assuming V-Power/Tesco 99 is 119p/l (yeah right
) - then you'd save £2.45 on a 50L fill-up! lol

Test car sorted
An STI 8 owner has volunteered his car, already fitted with an SC non billet turbo, fmic, Syvecs, API forged engine, etc. its perfect for the test

Nice one Pete, special no labour deal coming your way.

Cheers
Kev
Thanks Kev.....and a big thank you to the test vehicle owner
Just wondering - if one got a sc46 single scroll and then some time in the future decide to convert to twin scroll.
It would just need a p25 housing suitablely machined to convert ?

Billet powered top of the tree for now - http://www.rwyb.co.uk/cc_results2010.php
More to come at the next outing

how in your own opinion kev will the sc46 billet do on a forged 2.ltr classic and all supporting mods with v5 sti heads instead of newage heads ?
would this be recommended for such a set up as a fast road car with better spool than a td05 20g ?

probably overkill to be fair, we are about to run tests on the SC40 billet which is probably a better choice, and much cheaper.
cheers
Kev

.just waiting for a saturday off work, then its all yours kev.
