OK, fair enough, whatever you want to do.

As regards mine, it's NEVER run a VTA valve and never will. What killed it was headgasket failure due, apparently, to corrosion of the mating surfaces: the heads got skimmed locally, and neither I, nor the engine rebuilder, knew that this would raise the compression ratio dangerously, leading to det and engine failure when running in 40 degree heat at high sustained revs. I think you'll find it's called heatsoak.

If I can ever afford a rebuild, it will have an FMIC, 2.5 forged conversion and 6-speed box.

Anyway, you and your mate keep running your VTA valves for their noise, they can't possibly damage an engine by fooling the MAF into overfuelling, thus causing bore wash, burnt exhaust valves, maybe burnt turbo blades etc etc...........
My engine went because of big end failure due to oil starvation when the oil pump failed and back then I did not have a VTA dump valve on my car just a standard re-circ (maybe the re-circ caused it by your reckoning LOL). My friends first engine went because of the same problem (he did have a VTA but that wasn't the cause), his second went because of a poorly done re-build (supplier re-did FOC), third engine/technically still his second went again because of an oil starvation problem again attributed to the oil pump not being up to the job and is now having a 2.1 stroker build, highly uprated oil pump and more done. You may have a point with the MAF but at current mine is running great and will be going mafless & re-mapped in the not too distant future and as for my friends well he doesn't have a MAF and hasn't for years. Eitherway not trying to pi** anyone off just trying to get the facts right.

P.S. on a lighter note enjoy your Scooby and keep aiming for that re-build because it sounds like it'll be good. I'm sticking with 2 litres.....ok maybe 2.1 litres oneday at a push

I did awhile ago I think but I'll have another look at the threads. TBH though I'm still sticking with my VTA eitherway.

I THINK I understand that you are running a recirculating type, but slighlty uprated?

Welcome to the club. Mine is an HKS recirc type.
