MattW - Fingers crossed for ya ...
I am now glad I picked up a cancelled order rather than waiting
Matteeboy - Agreed some of the s-lines are about presence only ... the s-line on the A5 is not a massive change to a normal a5. I did have an old a4 s-line but that was because the company would not let me spec upwards on anything ... sometimes you have to make do with the best you can.
I would rather have a good looking audi or bmw (even without the power) than a more powerful volvo or vauxhall in the same sector .... (imho)

Demon - different strokes and all that. I'd now pick a Bimmer with any engine size (ahem - 18d engine would be pushing it) because of RWD/chassis balance but between Audi and Volvo (done Vx - bored of them now!) I'd be straight in the Swedish marque with a nice D5 engine. I rather like Volvos but FWD put me off (tried a V50 D5).
But that's just me - and it's an opinion only.
The A5 is a damn nice looking car though - they have definitely got one up on BMW's coupe with that styling both inside and out.

Agreed .... but I love the style inside and techie kit in the A5. I have the 3G MMI - real fun ... got a Bang & Olufsen speaker set ... nice sound .... integrated mobile with phone book ...
Even getting used to the switch parking brake
The D5 is a nice engine, but I am not into the current style inside or out?
I did think new scirocco at one stage .... but the a5 is a true 2+2 with a massive boot space.

Calm down Dearie....
I'm glad about the 'trouser department' as you put it, as it's the wifes car. and it's a 5 series, not a 3.
The S Lines and M Sports just look so much better than the normal cars, a bit more purposeful. A comfy cruiser with a 4 pot derv that returns 54.9 mpg (her best yet!) and looks quite nice.
OTT wheels?
You've clearly never spent some time with a 5 series with the 19" wheels and normal tyres then. So much more of a better ride than the 17/18" runflats.
The suspension on yours is exactly the same on the M sport, only it comes as standard on the M's
Anyway, well off topic!
The A5 looks way better than any 3 series coupe. (as the A4 Avant does any 3 series estate. Sorry, Tourer)

Zip - I know the differences between M Sport and SE specs...
I drove a 318d M Sport and it was harder, crashier and tramlined more with it's 18" wheels and 255/35s tyres (overkill in the extreme) at the rear. Same with the 120d M Sport I also had for a day.
The constant pursuit for bigger wheels is fashion led, not performance driven.
I'm getting non RFTs (Conti SportContact 3s) once my Bridgestones wear down but the taller/smaller tyres are definitely more comfortable and let go more predictably than oversized (and in "fashion") RFT rubber. In fact I really like the Sports Suspension/17" wheel combo - seems to go very well together. I did consider 162 (ellipsoid) 18" alloys but think I'll leave it - they are non M Sport but look the nuts. I don't like any M Sport wheels - too spindly and prone to cracking. There have been many issues with them.
And looks? The M Sport front spoiler is square and plasticky, the rear diffuser even more so. And the wheels are just too fragile. Steering wheel and seats are nice though. But black headlining? No thanks.
I would say it seems that looks are more important than handling/engines to you. But you have a 996 Porsche as opposed to the much much prettier 997. Hmmm....
Tee hee...
Back on topic though... errmmm what was the topic?

Matt,
I must admit the only 3 we had was an M sport and it was crashier than the current 5 M we have now.
Perhaps the longer wheelbase helps?
Re the wheels - never had any problems with them and the car's done 40k miles in 2 years.
Me, looks and handling above all else? You real?
I wouldn't say the Porsche is the prettiest of cars, but it certainly handles better and has a better engine than any BM....
Oh, nice to see you back again

I'm clutching at straws really - I like every 911 a lot...
Only a few models of M Sport alloy have suffered cracking - I think it's mainly the 19s on the 3 series - some have had to go legal on it.
Anyway, 911T - great car but no space. 335d - pretty decent car with space.
That'll do.

...and how you can say that any car with council house Christmas tree lights stuck to the front is better than a 3 series coupe amazes me
I'd take the Beemer any day of the week and twice at the weekend

That aside, I think the shape and look of the A5 is better and it's quite possibly the only Audi I like.

so far so .... ouch
22mpg on very short trips (and flooring it a bit ) but its still new < 400 miles
Got a few longer trips planned this week, will post again next week (the trip said 45mpg for a motorway trip)
but it does get looks ... and not everyone hates the lights (in fact I like them - they reflect well for parking etc)
