Blu you've seen the register on 22B.com, so know 16 UK cars were made... There was a UK 22B at the P1 gathering in poor condition for a UK car, shame as it was one of the 'rare' ones...

I will get that car cover off you at some point Mark, any chance you can send?

Not sure Paul, although I am sure there are photos of it... It wasn't in really bad nick, just been very well used and the guy had the back seats and boot full of wheels, suspension and other bits he was selling.

So if it was a 'T' reg 22B it must be a UK 22B he bought for £500? Were there any pics of the '22B Type UK' badge to confirm this?

OK as I have not 'analyzed' the 22B post that well, why would a Jap 22B be on a 99 T plate?

You are not allowed to go 'younger' on a private plate, only the same age or 'older'...

I thought import cars were registered on the year 'letter' they were manufactured? As the Jap 22B's were all made in 1998, surely they would be an 'S' plate on an import? Or are you saying if a 22B was imported now it would be on a 2010 plate? The UK 22B's are all on 'T' plates because they were modified and sold as being made by Prodrive in 1999 (i.e. 'T' plate). Please correct me if I am wrong?

Not tracking it mate but the oil temp did start to go up above 90 on motorway driving and, living where I do, most meets I go to do require a fair bit of motorway mileage to get to them. Deffis kept bleeping at me but they don't any more

Actually, thinking about it yes. If it was unregistered and still new, then I think it would be allocated a 2010 plate.
Aren't all cars (import or not), given the year plate of registration, and nothing to do with the year they were made.

Explains why our car has a 'V' plate.

The DVLA base their plate on the date of first registration ANYWHERE. However, in Scooby imports from Japan, that's often a bit complicated for them as they can't read the documents (in Japanese) and the Japanese even use a completely different calendar system to us, so even a date on the documentation will flummox them.

As an example, my old 22B had its first service in Japan at 1222km with a date in the service book of 10/07/04, which is NOT 10 July 2004, but 4 July 1998 on the Japanese calendar! The DVLA are certainly not the sharpest in the civil service tool box, so anything that's not "normal" causes confusion.

I think from memory, they just dated it as first registered as 1 January 1998, because they knew it was a 1998-built car, although when I deciphered the actual Japanese paperwork it was actually first registered there on something like 4 May 1998. Anyway it was allocated an R plate, which was OK.

However, if you have evidence that your car was never registered in Japan, then the DVLA would consider the date of first registration here as the correct plate. So if your car sat in the dealer or unregistered by its first Jap owner in his garage for a year, then a T plate or even later is feasible.

I know this as my 1991 Lotus Omega was not registered anywhere until 1997, so has an R plate as opposed to the J & K plates of most other Lotus Carltons. The slightly annoying thing is that the V5C states "declared manufactured 1997", which is obviously nonsense as they stopped production in 1992. I have corresponded with them on this and they say that's the only text they use in these rare cases.
