They don't call them "A" levels for nothing
As others have said, when I did my A levels in 1993, I'd noticed from past papers that the exams were getting progressively easier from the late 1970's compared to the early 1990's papers.
As one of the first few years to take GCSE's instead of O levels, there was a massive gulf at the time between the GCSE and A level syllabuses (especially maths and the sciences), which at the time still seemed to more naturally follow on from the old O level syllabuses. It would be interesting to see if there has been much adjustment to the current A level syllabus to accommodate that.

It was announced that the examiners were requested by the govt. to go easy when marking this time. I think the reason given was something to do with the recession.
I find it surprising now that freshers often have to be given a basic educational course so that their abilities can be elevated sufficiently for them to be able to start a degree course!
Of course all these amazing grades make it look as though educational standards are at a very high standard. Like the old saying-"It looks good on paper!"
